TV actress Urvashi Dholakia, who is still widely recognised as the OG ‘Komolika’ from Ekta Kapoor’s first installment of Kasauti Zindagi Ki, tied the knot when she was merely 16, and embraced motherhood barely a year-and-a-half later. For reasons that are unknown even today, she went on to part ways with her husband and spent the rest of her days dedicated to raising her sons, Sagar and Kshitij. And of course, all while working hard in the entertainment industry.

Recently, Urvashi opened up to a leading portal, sharing her journey so far and talking about the perils of having no “man of the house” in a country like India.

Urvashi has battled it all

"The picture was very different 24-25 years ago. The societal pressure, the taboo of being a single mother was obviously there but it did not bother me. Of course, within the family too, people were a bit reluctant and hesitant about it. Today, it has become a fad. Everything in my life happened very early," she began.

Furthermore, talking about the backlash she received from friends and relatives, she added, "Of course, there are a lot of people who came and went in the interim and said a lot of things to me, a lot. Some said behind my back, some of them said brutally on my face, very personal attacks on me but then if I start letting all this affect me, I wouldn't be where I am. I had no choice but to ignore all of them."

Urvashi’s sons have her back

Urvashi is a mom to twins, and not just any mom -- she’s a super cool, GenX one! Speaking about her close-knit relationship with them, she told a leading daily, "I embraced motherhood at a very young age and hence am not a quintessential parent who dictates what should and shouldn't be done. Yes we are like friends and our house is truly the Mad House of Dholakia's.”

Both Sagar and Kshitij have often proven to be well-raised gentlemen, supporting their mom in all her endeavours -- be it love or her work. Remember the time Madhurima Tuli had passed a snide remark at Urvashi during Nach Baliye 9? Well, before the actress could react herself, her boys stepped up to the occasion and defended her. When Tuli had accused Urvashi for “overreacting”, her son Sagar lashed out: "My mom @urvashi9 is not overreacting ma’am @ItsMadhurima19 u are over acting ! We never speak ill of others as that is what we’ve been taught but we will not keep quiet if you attack our mom for no reason.”

Even when it comes to Urvashi’s love life, her sons have always stood by her choices and decisions. When she was dating actor Anuj Sachdeva, here’s what the boys said: "Anuj is a very nice person. He's perfect for our mom. Whenever he bought something for her, he would always get something for us, too. Anuj is like family to us, but we never questioned our mom about her relationship with Anuj. All we want is for her to be happy and if she is happy with Anuj, we are happy for her." Now isn't that sweet?

Here’s wishing the Dholakia’s a happy ever after!
