The presiding judge of Los Angeles County’s court system Thursday announced the launch of a centralized traffic call center aimed at helping people with traffic tickets to efficiently resolve their citations without having to go to court.

“The court is continuing to expand our remote services to provide the most convenient and efficient ways to serve the needs of our Los Angeles County communities,” Presiding Judge Eric C. Taylor said in a written statement. “This new traffic call center adds to the court’s safe and convenient remote options to access justice in the most populous county in the U.S.”

The center — which can be reached at 213-633-6300 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for court holidays — can guide people with tickets through options to resolve their citations, including scheduling a court hearing or in-person appointment with the clerk’s office, enrolling in payment plans, requesting extensions and scheduling court hearings to release driver’s license holds, according to the court.

Interpreter service is available to those who speak any language other than English.

Other options for dealing with traffic tickets include:

— online service at lacourt.org/online/traffic, in which many traffic matters can be resolved online without speaking to a clerk on the phone or going to a courthouse;

— in-person office service at the Clerk’s Office by appointment only, which can be made through the traffic call center; and

— scheduling a court hearing through the call center or the court’s website to appear before a judge at the courthouse where the citation is filed.

Traffic litigants who do not plan on presenting any evidence are encouraged to appear remotely by telephone or another compatible device for any hearing that is not a trial using the court’s LACourtConnect system.
