Since the hosts of the podcasts ask everyone they are interviewing from the show a clue as to who the murderer is every episode, I've decided to make a list of them, hopefully we can guess who did it before the season finale!
#8 Fan Fiction (Rob Turbovsky, Matteo Borghese & Da'vine Joy Randolph (episode 8 writers, actress "Detective Williams")
40:01
"When we asked Rob and Matteo for a clue, they politely declined to give us one. But they did help us out with a head scratcher that Steven Markley gave us last week (see below)."
"Is it time to tell people the truth that Markley's clue was just bullshit."
Da'vine: "I don't even know. (who it is)"
#7 The Boy From 6B (Stephen Markley & Ben Philippe, episode 7 writers)
35:13
gag clue haha! "Mabel is not a ghost. I saw a few theories. Mabel and Zoe are two different characters, Mable is alive!"
actual clue: "There's a line of dialogue in the first seven episodes which is an anagram of the childhood home town of the actor who plays the killer."
clue from Ben Smith (writer of episode 3): "I think that the story of the murder and what actually happened fits in the big themes that we've been exploring this season. So, what happened and the explanation for it should tie in with the themes in the show."
#6 To Protect and Serve (Madeleine George & Kim Rosenstock, episode 6 writers)
31:00
"The clue to who done it has been said in a lie already in your podcast."
"Something we discussed here in this podcast is tied to the person. So, everything is connected to everything."
Although hosts said will it be something we cut out of the interview? or something they leave in. Can't be too sure. (the second clue).
#5 Twist (Thembi Banks, episode 5 writer)
20:23
"I think the safest clue I can give is that, even our characters that we are following, it will be a journey to discover and come to terms with who the killer is."
*Thembi clarifies that the two "main" twists are Oscar (tie-dye hoodie reveal) & GM.
#4 Sting (Kristin Newman & Amy Ryan, episode 4 writer, actress "Jan")
34:56
when Kristin was asked for a clue with regards to the murderer she said, how about just a little something for episode 5:
"Tie dye guy will be dangerous in more ways than one."
*Kristen also said that Jan plays the bassoon for a reason.
they asked Amy Ryan for a clue:
"Scenes that we filmed outside there's lot of paparazzi taking pictures of our show, we just kept staging characters getting arrested and murdered just to throw them off. So any clue you may be looking for out there may just be a play by us."
#3 How Well Do You Know Your Neighbors (Micheal Cyril Creighton, actor "Howard")
15:33
"All I can say is, I think you'll see Howard again at some point. Maybe."
Do you know who the murderer is?
"Do I know who the murderer is? *long pause* ahhh laughs I-I-I- plead the fifth."
#2 Who is Tim Kono? (Kirker Butler & Julian Cihi, (episode 2 co-writer, actor "Tim")
13:34
"Nathan Lane is in the show and I've always been a fan of his, but there is some stuff that he's doing in an episode that's coming up and it is some of the best acting I've ever seen him do. He is so good and I've never seen him quite like this before."
*Julian also knew off the bat who killed him.
#1 True Crime (John Hoffman, co-creator, show-runner & screenwriter)
21:34
"With the moment that happens at the end of episode one, the world opens up a little bit as to, if its a show about connection then there are secrets that all of our characters have that are presented in episode one that may not be as fully as they seem to be, connections could go deeper and more specifically in ways that will open up stories that could go back as far as 10 years that connect to today, to create a bigger more dimensional story, and in season 1 particularly Mabel's story is one to watch."
one last question, are there red herrings in there that we should be wary of?
"Right away! We throw it all in, I will tell you that, some of the answers you get at the end of episode one and almost immediately in episode 2 may or may not be the case. That includes all three of them but particularly Charles too."
