Who's Returning for Community: The Movie?
◆ Joel McHale as Jeff Winger. After graduating in Season 4, Jeff took a job as Greendale’s law professor.
◆ Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir. In the series finale, the Cougar Town superfan moved to Los Angeles to work as a television production assistant.
◆ Alison Brie as Annie Edison. In the last episode, the forensics major left Colorado for a summer internship with the FBI.
◆ Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry. The psychology major was last employed as a bartender.
◆ Jim Rash as Dean Craig Pelton.
◆ Ken Jeong as former Spanish professor Ben Chang.
◆ Donald Glover as Troy Barnes. Glover exited Community midway through Season 5, at which point Troy set sail with LeVar Burton aboard The Childish Tycoon. In the Season 5 finale, it was reported that Burton and his “non-celebrity companion” had been captured by pirates off the Gulf of Mexico.
I would have been surprised about Donald Glover or Chevy Chase being involved (though I was hopeful for Glover) – but no Yvette either?

Well, Joel McHale tagged Donald and Yvette in his tweet, so maybe the title could be changed to “NOT CONFIRMED TO RETURN YET?”
Cause i really doubt YNB does not appear in any shape or form. I hope not only the original cast appears, but also the ones that appeared later. i loved Elroy and Frankie.
Also, i’ll bet my firstborn to say that the plot is Greendale’s Class reunion 10 years later.
This. I expect Shirly back in some manner. And I’d think that Glover will make some hilarious and insanely brief appearance.
I get the feeling she didn’t like work environment as she was supposedly leaving show to take care of dad, then she was on odd couple…ironically a smart move as that gave her 3 yrs employment vs 2 more seasons
Both she and Donald returned for the Covid episode table read and seemed enthusiastic about the movie in a Q&A filmed at the same time, although the question might be about availability and finding a way to fit them in to the story, especially with Troy being missing presumed dead in universe.
The hours on a multi-cam set are much more manageable than in a single-cam show. Now I think it’s possible she has some kind of scheduling conflict that’s keeping her from doing the movie. Hope she manages to appear in some capacity!

if Donald Glover can’t make time for a Community movie, why should we make time for any of his other endeavors. The same goes for Yvette Brown.
Danny Glover is such a major star now that doing a made for TV movie could seriously damage his career, not to mention the image he has spent years building up with his rap and acting/directing career. If people who idolize songs like ‘this is America’ see him as Troy they’ll think he’s sold out to a white, castrated, Sesame Street vibe. He’s a really good person, I wouldn’t want to see him lose what he’s built over such a long time. He could be heading for major movie roles, and an academy award type career, as much as I love Troy, I’d want that for him more.
Shirley has kinda stayed in tv though, I so wish she was doing it, and I loved Paget Brewster in it, the scene where she’s calling the dean stupid in so many ways is one of my favorite scenes in community ever, so laugh out loud

What is wrong with you? Actors don’t owe you anything. They don’t want to do it, they don’t. You’re acting like they owe you something. It’s a job for them. Deal with it.
And we don’t owe it to them to watch it. If someone doesn’t watch to watch a Community movie without Glover, that is entirely their prerogative.
But they tried to “we” it.
Besides I’d bet a free caesar salad Glover, Brown, David and Brewster would all say yes if asked and available.
Yvette originally left to take care of her father. I am not sure if she feels the character had closure or what the reasoning is this time, and maybe she just isn’t announced yet. She did retweet and help pump up the new for her friends at least. Feel however you want to about DG, but given Yvette’s original reason for leaving, I am cutting her some slack.
I hope Yvette and extremely hope Donald at least makes a cameo, though I get he is super busy.
I would love to see the dynamic of Abed and Troy, one more time, for a whole movie. Chevy coming back would be a shock so completely get why he wouldn’t be attached.

Aaaahhhhh such amazing news, I thought we were gonna have to wait a few more years based on what Harmon has been saying recently, thought it was a complete pipe dream until then!!!
I’m cautiously optimistic about this. One of the best things about “Community” was the way it experimented with the epiisodic TV format, playing with different styles and approaches every week (and allowing deeper character traits and relationships to emerge over time). A movie could still be great — but revisiting something after a long absence also has the potential to squander all the goodwill we once had for it (hello, “Dexter”). In any case, it’ll be interesting to see what they do with this college study group as the actors approach 50.
Off topic but news like this is why I will never give up on a Hannibal Season 4 or movie!
What I want to see is the NBC Hannibal cast tackle the Silence of the Lambs story. And bring in Clarice from the CBS series.

One of my favorite sitcoms!!! Six seasons AAAAAND A MOVIE! I’m still hoping for a Troy and Shirley cameo.
A: Donald G is not so huge he couldn’t return.. I think it was just a matter of time before his NSFW force dic pic stunt on the read through is going to problematic for him.
B: Anyone know why John Oliver got cut..?
C: Nichole is everywhere, and probably just couldn’t make the time.

I’m sad about the people who aren’t returning (save perhaps for Chase), but I also understand why they aren’t, given all the other stuff they’re doing and whatnot. But hopefully the movie will find fun and sweet ways to honor and give shout outs to them.

Hope we get Yvette and Donald back for the movie too! For Donald, I’ve always expected if he does board the movie, it would be a cameo. Surprised Yvette isn’t attached yet. Wonder what’s the hold up. Wouldn’t mind seeing Frankie and Elroy too! I’m just happy the movie is finally happening! Tears in my eyes on the way to work. Been waiting a long time for it to happen! 🥲
I don’t care what happens in the plot. But if we don’t get the Dean dressed up as an exercise bike making himself Dean Peloton and trying to get Jeff to ride him, it’s a real missed opportunity.
Screen play pitch: “Britta, while in jail, for accidentally protesting something, believe she meets a relative of Chang’s who also is in the jail and gives to Britta a message for Chang but it’s in Chinese. She gets bailed out of jail by Jeff and gives message ‘for Chang’ to Jeff (who is bored beyond belief still teaching at Greendale) on the chance he may know how to find Chang. They enlist Abed to help find Chang who then translates the message apparently received from a distant relative of Chang’s in China. Turns out the message appears to be from or about Troy (the relative wants some money for finding Troy’s whereabouts). Apparently, Troy needs help – he’s been kidnapped by Chinese pirates on the open Pacific seas. Jeff asks Frankie for time off (quits so he can go) to search for Troy but Frankie finally agrees and helps them call Annie for a favor – she’s now at the FBI – to help trace where Troy maybe based on the message. FBI refuses to help Annie or care so she goes on leave to help them. The Dean of course shows up as he’s still monitoring Jeff’s cell phone all packed and ready for travel in inapprop. outfit and all. They contact Shirley in Louisiana because of her work experience, working for the paraplegic detective, and her contacts’ access to sea boats, but they realize that’s on the Atlantic so they are forced to rely on Chang’s relatives for a boat to hunt for Troy, though Shirley offers to be a captain because she Aced the sailing class. It becomes an homage to both/either the Scooby Do capers and/or Gilligan’s Island. Turns out they get captured by pirates while searching for Troy but Chang read the message wrong and it was from Troy saying he was coming home to visit. Troy arrives back at Greendale after getting bored on an Island paradise just missing the gang leaving to hunt for him. So he ends up saving them from the pirates with the help of Frankie and Elroy. ” Copyright pending.
