2009 ‘ストリートファイターIV 新たなる絆’ Directed by Koji Morimoto, Jiro Kanai
After the fall of Shadaloo, things went quiet and everyone continued with their daily routine. However a new evil is lurking on the horizon and the fighters that battled against Shadaloo must take up arms once again. Meanwhile a mysterious detective, whose motives are unknown, is going to any extent to find the lonesome wanderer Ryu, who appears to play a big part in the scheme of this new evil.

Video games were a mistake. Anime was a mistake. All the reasons I somewhat liked the last two Street Fighter films I watched are completely missing from this one. Instead we get bad animation, terrible pacing, and god awful dialogue. Never a single interesting fight or exchange between characters. Just an hour long heap of garbage.
This movie reminded me that I hate Street Fighter IV, and Seth may be my least favorite addition to fighting franchise ever. Can I explain why I loathe Street Fighter so much? Not really no, but this shitty ass movie definitely did not help.
Wow. This was bad. For a game about fighting, this feature has very little of it, and what there was was more posturing than action. What you do get is reams upon reams of awful dialogue and monologues, monotonously delivered. This is the kind of anime where characters will talk to themselves aloud to narrate flashbacks and talk about their feelings, but a complete absence of narrative depth and world building render it pure nonsense. The makers have no idea how to tell a story.
I expected more from the animation with Morimoto directing it. It's not bad but we have already seen the same scenario in the previous films based on the franchise.
Insipid. As someone who loves the fighting franchise, I found Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind — a sort of adaptation of my favourite game in the series — to not only be disappointing, but frankly execrable. Not even Hideyuki Fukasawa’s legendary music for the game could redeem this wreckage. The animation is so ugly and utterly lackadaisical, the dialogue and voice-acting is very lame (which is made even worse by the fact that it’s the original voice cast saying these lines), the sound mixing can sound noticeably unpolished, and the editing is atrocious. I thought the scene with Ryu and Cammy brawling C. Viper was somewhat cool, but that’s about all the film has to offer. I totally understand that this is just a low-budget hour-long anime-movie add-on to the original 2009 game’s physical copy, but the lack of effort and care here is sadly evident.

Pretty good! Loved the animation style, loved the action, loved the characters, but the end felt a little unfinished and made me want more. This also brought back a lot of nostalgia from the Xbox 360 days 🥲🥲
Oof this one is rough. This a downgrade in almost every way from the previous ones. The plot is fine and the voice acting and music are good for the most part but everything else is… just ooof. The story starts out fine enough but kinda feels like a retread of the first two films story mixed with a decent GI Joe esc plot, but once Seth shows up things go downhill fast. If you’re watching all the animated Street Fighter films you can probably skip this one. It’s not very good and it’s the ugliest looking SF movie. It’s like comparing the first season of One Punch Man to the second Season. I’ve seen old Hanna Barbara cartoons that have better animated fight scenes then some of the ones in this film.

I don’t know anything about these games so the movie confused me a bit. Nice animation though.
This totally works as a sequel to all the other animated projects. Alpha Generations, SFII, SF Alpha, then this. It picks up on story threads referenced in all of them.
There’s a cool little twist and a genuine attempt at character work. I appreciated that as well as the stellar animation and voice work. But that unfortunately is lost behind terrible dubbing on lip syncing level and an absolute slog of pacing.
What fights there are, are fine. But it’s so tropey with anime monologues and holding back on what makes the series special. I don’t understand that. I was bored out of my mind and just ready for it to be done.
But I can appreciate the parts they tried. It’s just so bland and forgettable, despite Ken’s arc.
