here suggestions for some proper action cartoons with higher quality animation, after seeing some of this you realize how bad Hanna Barbera output really was

- The adventures of galaxy Rangers

- Saber Riider and the Star Sherrifs

- Starcom The US Space Force

- Bionic Six (not rleeased on DVD but to be found on various sites)

I think this qualifies as a "you're welcome" post, as I just bought the DVDR set 2 months ago.

I absolutely love this show. It's so dark for an early 80's Saturday morning cartoon, considering the premise is post-apocalyptic where the majority of the world's population dies. It's Conan (the Barbarian) meets Star Wars meets 2012. It was a pretty darned good show, if not terribly original, with good voice acting for its time (Thundarr's VA Robert Ridgely was prolific in the industry and quite talented). I don't think the show was short lived for being unpopular. IIRC, it was cancelled because it was targeted by parent groups because of its "violent" content.

Ah man, you got the DVDs even more recently than I did, that's a shame.

But yeah, I think the show still holds up in its narrative adventure aspects (the animation is cheaply produced, but I find it generally adequate). A lot of the quality is due to the efforts of the writing staff, which included some notable comic book writers such as Steve Gerber and Mark Evanier.

As a child I really appreciated that this show didn't have a whiny sidekick character like other adventure cartoons from the era; i.e. Snarf from Thundercats, Orko from Masters of the Universe, Uni from Dungeons & Dragons, etc.

I also loved that Thundarr's solution to every problem was violence. There was no effort made to make villains see the error of their ways or peacefully mediate disputes. Thundarr doesn't mindlessly kill, but he tackles every obstacle by beating or slicing it until it's no longer an impediment to his view of a just world.

Agreed. In all honesty, I really like the art style. It's definitely a little more comic book than other modern Saturday morning cartoons of that period.

Mark Evanier was freaking brilliant. He was also responsible for making Garfield and Friends what it was, which ended up being exponentially better than the actual comic strip.

I was lamenting only yesterday or the day before about how this wasn't on BluRay as this was one of my favorite 80s cartoons. Another Day 1 for me.

THUNDARR was one of the most memorable Saturday morning cartoons from the '80s, and one of my very favorite. I'm so glad this has finally come to Blu-ray, with SDH no less. Thanks Warner!

I did not see this upgrade coming at all. Splendid news!

And to think we only lost Ken Spears a couple of months ago. RIP Ken....

Alex Toth and Jack Kirby both worked on the production design of the show so I think that also adds to the comic book feel.

This is one of my favourite cartoons ever so even though I have the DVD set, will definitely be upgrading to blu. Have they given a release date?

If, like me, you remember watching this on Saturday mornings, then you are old.

It's great to see more and more animated classics on Blu. Even the less popular ones.
