NBC's La Brea cast is filled with notable actors and actresses, bringing the network's new fantasy mystery series to life. The show, which is a part of NBC’s fall TV lineup, takes viewers into a beautiful world populated by prehistoric creatures. For the time being, what it actually is and how the characters wound up there are among the show’s biggest unanswered questions.
Similar to Manifest, La Brea is being regarded as another attempt at recreating the formula of Lost, the hit ABC series that focused on the lives of various passengers struggling to survive on an island plagued by mysteries. Like Lost, La Brea centers on a diverse group of strangers who become stranded in a mysterious and unfamiliar place. But rather than crash-landing on a tropical island in the Pacific Ocean, La Brea’s protagonists were dragged into the story by a massive sinkhole that opened up in the La Brea Tar Pits. As a result, dozens of people inexplicably found themselves trapped in a thriving ecosystem that has drawn comparisons to Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. For now, it’s unclear if they’re in an underground world, the past, or an entirely different dimension.
Whereas Lost limited its focus to the experiences of the survivors on the island, La Brea is splitting its story between those who fell in the sinkhole and the people on the surface who are determined to find out what happened. So far, the series shaping up to be a show that encompasses a long list of characters, each with their own motivations, backstory, and arcs.
Natalie Zea as Eve Harris
Receiving top billing on the La Brea cast is Natalia Zea, who plays Eve Harris, a divorced mother of two children. She appears to be the central character in the storyline that takes place within this mysterious world. While looking out for her son, Eve is also providing a source of leadership for the survivors. Before starring in La Brea, Zea was known for playing Claire Matthews in FOX's The Following and Winona Hawkins in Justified.
Eoin Macken as Gavin Harris
Irish actor Eoin Macken notably played Sir Gwaine throughout the last three seasons of Merlin, and also played the lead in the NBC medical drama, The Night Shift, which ran for four seasons. His La Brea character is Gavin Harris, Eve’s ex-husband and the father of their two kids. Gavin, a former Air Force pilot, lost his way and became an alcoholic, seemingly because of visions he had of La Brea’s underground world. Now, he may be the key to finding out what happened and saving his family.
Zyra Gorecki as Izzy Harris
Izzy, the teenage daughter of Gavin and Eve, was present at the La Brea Tar Pits at the time of the sinkhole incident. She’s expected to play a role in her father’s mission to reunite the family and get to the bottom of the show’s central mystery. Izzy is played by Zyra Gorecki, a 19-year-old actress with a prosthetic leg (which has actually been incorporated into the show). Prior to joining the La Brea cast, Gorecki’s only acting credit was an episode of Chicago Fire.
Jack Martin as Josh Harris
Eve and Gavin’s son in La Brea is high school senior Josh Harris. While Izzy is still in the city with their dad, Josh is currently in the company of his mother and all the others who fell in the sinkhole. Josh is played by newcomer Jack Martin, who is known primarily for his TikTok videos.
Chiké Okonkwo as Ty Coleman
Ty Coleman is the psychiatrist who befriends Eve in La Brea’s pilot episode. So far, it looks like this character is poised to become an important ally in season 1, while bringing with him a few secrets of his own. The actor portraying Ty, Chiké Okonkwo, is best remembered for appearing in several British dramas, including Paradox, New Tricks, and more. He also had a major role in Being Mary Jane season 4.
La Brea Supporting Cast
Karina Logue as Marybeth Hill: Marybeth Hill is a cop whose interest in self-preservation puts her at odds with the group. Logue previously played recurring characters in shows such as Sons of Anarchy, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Animal Kingdom.
Jon Seda as Dr. Sam Velez: Depicted as a jack-of-all-trades and arguably the group’s most capable member, Dr. Velez has a history as a Navy SEAL and an experienced surgeon. Seda starred in Chicago P.D. as Antonio Dawns from seasons 1 to 6.
Rohan Mirchandaney as Scott Israni: House Husbands actor Rohan Mirchandaney plays Scott Israni, a junkie and a member of Eve’s group. Though Scott has demonstrated some degree of cowardice, he appears willing to contribute to the group’s efforts to survive.
Lily Santiago is Veronica Castillo: Described by NBC as “rigid and formal”, Veronica’s main goal is to care for her sister. For the stage actress, La Brea marks her first-ever TV role.
Chloe De Los Santos as Lily Castillo: Lily is the “introverted” 12-year-old child and the younger sister of Veronica. Lily actress Chloe De Los Santos had a recurring role in the Australian Netflix series, Tidelands.
Veronica St. Clair as Riley Velez: St. Clair, who appeared in an episode of 13 Reasons Why, portrays Riley Velez in La Brea. In the show, Riley is the 19-year-old daughter of Dr. Velez and a character who forms friendships with Scott and Josh shortly after falling through the sinkhole.
Josh McKenzie as Lucas Hayes: The New Legends of Monkey’s Josh McKenzie has been cast as Lucas Hayes, a criminal and the son of Marybeth Hill. Hayes wasn’t in the pilot but the website has confirmed that he’ll be a major character in season 1.
Nicholas Gonzalez as Levi Brooks: Gonzalez, who is no stranger to the fantasy and science fiction genres, has guest-starred in dozens of TV shows, some of which being Grimm, Sleepy Hollow, The Flash, and Lucifer. But the actor’s biggest role was on The Good Doctor, where he was a series regular for three seasons. In La Brea, Gonzalez will play Levi Brooks, a character who has yet to make an entrance. According to an official character description, Brooks is Gavin’s best friend and a person tasked with helping him find the survivors.
