GARY AND DARLENE FOSEID
submitted by Darlene Foseid
Gary is the son of Janet and Oddvar Foseid. He met and married Darlene Sjoberg, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Sjoberg, in April of 1968. Darlene’s parents, Ruth and Clarence had lived in Fort Garry and in 1968 had moved to the corner of Church Road and Henderson Hwy. (5997 Henderson). Gary and Darlene moved into this house and Gary then worked for Pioneer Electric in Fort Garry and Darlene worked for the Versatile Mfg.
On July 26, 1970 Gary and Darlene were blessed with their first daughter (Sherri Loreen) and with this happy event was the need for their own quarters* They pur chased a lot on Church Road, just east of the Sjoberg’s home, and commenced building. They moved into their new home in 1972. In 1973 their second daughter (Durelle Lynn) was born. During this time Gary had become self- employed as a Dry-waller, and decided his line of en deavor lay in the field of law enforcement. Gary applied to the RCMP hoping to make this his career. While waiting for his acceptance into the RCMP Depot at Regina, he was employed by Kingsway Transport. By March 15, 1975, Gary had been accepted into the force and left for Regina prepared for extensive training that was to take six months. During this period, Darlene and the two girls, with a great deal of help from friends and family, remained at home and made preparations for a new life. Sherri was enrolled and attended the Happy
Thought School in East Selkirk (Kindergarten) during this period.
In November, 1975 Gary was posted to the Thompson, Man. Detachment, where the family remained for 2 1/2 years.
The next posting was to Souris Detachment of the RCMP, where they have resided for the past 5 years during which time they were blessed with a son, Garrett Wayne, in August of 1980.
Darlene and Gary and their family visit St. Clements several times each year and remember fondly their first home on Church Road.
To date, Gary has not been notified of any other posting and is enjoying the Souris area. Gary coaches hockey and baseball in his spare time and enjoys hunting and fishing. Darlene enjoys Ceramics and other han dicrafts and works part time at Macleods. The girls are enrolled in figure skating, horseback riding as well as swimming and other sports.
