George Clooney is settling into the director’s chair for his new biographical sports drama, The Boys in the Boat, which will officially come to theaters this Christmas. Luckily, we have you covered on all the ways you can watch this new flick!
Based on author Daniel James Brown’s 2013 book of the same name, The Boys in the Boat — which stars Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner — follows the true story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team as they compete for a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Berlin.

WHERE TO WATCH THE BOYS IN THE BOAT:
As of now, the only way to watch The Boys in the Boat is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on Monday, Dec. 25. You can find a local showing on Fandango. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Vudu, YouTube and Apple, or become available to stream for free on Amazon.
UPDATE 2/21/24: The Boys in the Boat officially became available on digital platforms on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
WILL THE BOYS IN THE BOAT BE ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO?
Since The Boys in the Boat is being distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, it will eventually make its way to Amazon Prime Video. While there is no set release date just yet, we can make an estimate based on a previous movie released by the company. Saltburn joined the streaming platform on Dec. 22 — exactly five weeks after it premiered in theaters. If The Boys in the Boat follows the same trajectory, it could become available to stream on Prime Video as early as Jan. 29, 2024.

WILL THE BOYS IN THE BOAT BE ON HBO MAX?
No, The Boys in the Boat will not be on Max since it’s not a Warner Bros. movie. The platform — previously known as HBO Max — also no longer does direct-to-streaming releases. Instead, they’ve implemented a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the Max release.
