- PMVDubai, United Arab Emirates1,260 contributionsCharming townWe decided to spend a night in Mahon on the way to Ciutadella and were not disappointed at all. It has a lot of charm and it is very quiet, with almost no cars in the old part of the town. The bay is beautiful, you can walk along the marina which has a lot of nice restaurants. The old town is on top of a small cliff. The architecture is very interesting.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 March 2023
- Nicky K2 contributionsMahon….a fantastic day outMahon was lovely, well worth a visit. Gorgeous buildings, plentiful shops and restaurants too. We had a water taxi from Es Castell which took us to Mahon harbour. We went on the glass bottom boat tour of the harbour, definitely recommend doing. There’s a market on a Saturday (I think it was, up towards the bus station). Some shops were closed on a Sunday but restaurants were all open. Top tip………from the harbour there’s a glass lift (which wasn’t there a few years ago when I last visited), which takes you up to the town and saves a steep climb!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2023

Nice streets to stroll in between the bus station & the churches. Fab bars along the side of the harbour.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 October 2023

Mahon as well as the whole island of Menorca is a very beautiful place. I always immediately relax when the flight lands at the airport. Take the time and enjoy a beautiful place

Menorca was not a place for me, not many great restaurant s, no decent shops, no galleries or museums of interest. Streets on the edge of Mahón town have dog poo on the pavements, it’s a poor town but if you take a boat trip round the port - the houses all along are worth millions! A bit bizarre .

We visited the port and Mao for a day whilst staying in Es Castell. You can have a leisurely walk down from the town and wander along the harbour and see the boats. There are a lot of boat tour options available. It was very hot so we chose to go back up to the town using the free glass lift. There is a great little market at the top surrounded by lovely bars all enjoying the stunning view. We also visited the old fish market which has now been converted into an on trend bar and tapas bar like those Time-out places in Madrid and Lisbon.

On researching our 2-week holiday on Menorca we opted to base ourselves in the old capital of Ciutadella, 30 miles to the east of Mao. In that respect we were biased towards our choice of location but couldn't just see Mao airport and not visit the city itself.
The port is very nice with lots of steps down from the town centre as well as the option of taking a glass lift down to the harbour

bonjour,
