The Flood of Live Streaming Local Channels Has Started

Since April 2017 we have been hearing plans about locals coming to live TV streaming services. Yet until recently nothing has come from the press releases.

CBS, NBC, and ABC have all struck deals with their affiliates that will let them negotiate for their locals. Fox has taken a different step and has started to roll out a national feed in markets where Fox affiliates have yet to sign a streaming deal on some services.

Now though it seems the flood gates are opening and looks are flooding in on many live TV streaming services.

DIRECTV NOW has recently doubled the number of locals they offer. Often adding channels with no announcements or fanfare.

Hulu just this week added 40 CBS affiliates just this week. Bringing the total number of CBS affiliates on Hulu to over 60.

PlayStation Vue this week added About 30 Fox affiliates from Sinclair and Tribune owned local fox channels.

This is likely just the start as ABC is expected to add over 100 local affiliates to services like DIRECTV NOW.  NBC and CBS are said to be working on the final details to bring more channels to services.

So the rest of 2017 will likely be very busy bringing new locals to many popular live TV services.
