Writing Competition

He had just gotten into his apartment and his phone was already ringing with intent to fill his night with mischief and unforgettable experiences. The first to call was a boy by the name of Alex. He was a portly character with great insight into all aspects of life. It is quite pitiful, for Alex had dropped out of school at the age of 16. Such a great mind gone to waste, but what is to come of Alex is unknown to all except to Alex himself. The next caller was a rather humorous friend by the name of Chadwick, but everyone called him Doyle for no particular reason. Plans had begun to take shape. He was to pick up Alex and Doyle, and meet the rest of his group at a local fast food restaurant. .
Miles was 18 at the time, a freshman attending a local community college. Both of his parents had died the previous year due to a car wreck involving a group of drunk teens going high speeds down the wrong side of the road. It was said that the impact killed them all instantly; it was easier for Miles to accept that his parents did not suffer, but it still bothered him quite frequently. Miles would brood over their absence for hours on end. He knew that he needed guidance, and now that the sole providers and leaders in his life were gone, the pangs of life hit him harder than ever before.
When the the friends finally reached their destination, the three piled out of the car and began to socialize with the other adolescents there. There was a man there no one had ever seen before. He glided between the amassing kids with such ease and elegance. Miles had gone into the restaurant to purchase a drink. When he came out, the parking lot was practically emptied. Everyone was getting into their cars and following the others to a party just down the street. So Miles, Alex, and Doyle got into the car and were about to leave, when the unknown man approached Miles and asked for a ride over to the house party.
