What to do with old francs?

Does anyone know if there is a charity that will accept old francs? I've been having a sort out & found an old purse full of them!

Hi,

If you have notes you can take them to a travel agents or the post office and they will change them to Euros - with a little commission added.

If you only have coins then any charity shop will accept them. We dropped a load of pesetas, francs, and drakmas off at a Cancer Research charity shop. They collect them from all over the country and then take a huge sack of coins to the bank and cash them in.

Kind regards

Thanks for that, but as I live in France I'm looking for a French charity who would accept the coins. The only French charity I know that has shops is Emmaus. Are there any others?

The exchange date for coins is well past - they now only have a curiosity value but no monetary one, so whether the charity would actually want them....

Hi,

I would think that the red cross would accept them - I'm not sure but I think they collect them all together and sell them to coin dealers who then packet them up into sets and sell abroad - a bit like old stamps - to coin collectors in other countries around the world.

There is a red cross in Parthenay, practically across the street from the Emmaus shop.

If not, then maybe a local school might take them for the kids to play with.

Hope this helps. Regards
