The city of Frankfurt worked over 10 years and spend 100 of million euros to rebuild parts of the old town that was destroyed in WW2
Of course Frankfurt will celebrate it with a 3 day festival this weekend as Frankfurt can party good.
Times are Fri 3pm-11pm
Sat 11am-11pm
Sun 11am-6pm
It will have two stages, Stage 1 has mostly Theater and Opera, for example also Faust
Stage 2 Live Music, everything from Jazz to Pop
For me the highlights are the hr big band sat 8pm. They are really good and Rodgau Monotones, a local favorite on Sun 4pm
Another plus is that you can get a Culture Ticket for 34 Museums for €18 that is good for Sat/Sun(Familyticket, 2 adults, plus kids €28) In 16 Museums kids under 18 are free to enter.
Another advantage, if you buy a dayticket on Fri for public transportation aka train/bus/subway/s-bahn within the city, it will be good for all 3 days of the festival. Basically, pay for 1 day, ride for 3 days
The city will also run historic streettrams from the Main Railwaystation to the Zoo on Sat/Sun from 2pm-9pm sat& 11am-6pm sun
In addition a Historic train will run along the river to the Eastharbor which will have a festival too
Every night after the sun set will be a Drone light show over the river, never seen one, not sure what to expect, but I sure will watch it
There will be tours of the old town every 15 min, even some in english
Friday, 16:30 Uhr
Sat, 13:30 und 19:30 Uhr
Son, 13:30 Uhr
Meeting point is at the tourist office at Römerberg, cost €10
Hundreds of special tours are avail too, but these are mostly in German
The new Restaurants/Bars in the old town offer all specials, what I might do is the Vinothek Balthasar at Markt 13, they offer a WInetasting(3 Wines) and a glass Champagne for €15 which is a rather good price.
If that is not enough, along the river is also a big sports festival as it is the week of sport in Frankfurt
As you can see, a lot to do in Frankfurt this weekend. Enjoy!
