What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2022 In NYC

As New Yorkers grab their last bit of summer fun, don't expect to find an open post office.

NEW YORK CITY — A relatively normal Labor Day is upon New York City for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic struck.

New Yorkers looking for a last bit of summer fun have plenty of options, but those looking for a normal Monday should check this handy list Patch compiled of what's open and closed.

Government Buildings

City, state, and federal government offices, including courts and post offices, are closed.

Public libraries will be closed.

Many banks will be closed Monday as well.

Parking

Car owners, rejoice! Alternate side parking rules will be suspended on Monday.

Beaches

Swimming at city-run beaches will be allowed when lifeguards are duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Transit

The subway will run on a Sunday schedule, according to the MTA.

"That means there will be no service on the B, W and Z trains; no express 6 or 7 trains; and no express F trains in Brooklyn," the MTA posted.

The Long Island Rail Road will run a weekend schedule on Monday.

Metro-North will run a Sunday schedule on Monday.

Trash pickup

There will be no trash or recycling collection on Monday.

If Monday is your trash day, the sanitation department asks New Yorkers to set out garbage on Sunday between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Residents who receive Monday recycling collection should place material on the curb Sept. 11 between 4 p.m. and midnight for pickup on Sept. 12.

Composting collection set for Monday will happen Tuesday. Residents should set out curbside composting Monday between 4 p.m. and midnight.
