All Space Considered

The third Thursday of each month, the Observatory presents this free inside look at the most talked-about subjects in astronomy, space science, and space exploration. Observatory curatorial staff and special guests bring visitors up to date on what is going on in space. The presentations are offered free to the public.

Star Parties

Once a month, the Observatory partners with local telescope groups to share their telescopes and knowledge with the public. With dozens of telescopes on the lawn, there’s always something to see!

Sunset Walk & Talk

Each month, a Park Ranger and a Museum Guide lead a half-mile sunset hike with stops along the way to discuss the highlights and history of Griffith Park and objects visible in the evening sky.

Solstices and Equinoxes

Eclipses

People have always paid attention to eclipses. Before they knew what was happening, people feared eclipses because the ever-present Sun or Moon would suddenly disappear. Though we now understand why eclipses occur and can predict them precisely, they are still compelling to observe.

The 190-seat Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon presentation theater dramatically expands the Observatory's programming and education capabilities. The Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon realizes an unfulfilled intention of the Observatory's original architects to have a second theater to complement the planetarium.

Since reopening in 2006 after the renovation and expansion project, the Observatory has hosted hundreds of public events and activities.
