The Sacketts Volume One 5-Book Bundle: Sackett's Land, To the Far Blue Mountains, The Warrior's Path, Jubal Sackett, Ride the River

Though most of the epic Sackett series takes place during the 1870s, Louis L’Amour took great pains to flesh out this iconic family’s origins and pre–Civil War history. Now the five novels chronicling the arrival of Barnabas Sackett on American soil, his sons’ trials in the sprawling new wilderness, and their descendants’ adventures in the West are collected in one indispensable eBook   SACKETT’S LAND TO THE FAR BLUE MOUNTAINS THE WARRIOR’S PATH JUBAL SACKETT RIDE THE RIVER   After finding six gold Roman coins buried in an English swampland, Barnabas Sackett invests in goods to trade in America. But he also has a powerful enemy with a grudge that goes back to Sackett’s father. On the eve of his departure, Sackett is attacked and thrown into the hold of a pirate ship. After managing to escape, he makes his way to the Carolina coast, where the raw, abundant land promises a bright future. However, before that dream can be realized, Sackett must first discover the secret of his father’s legacy.

Louis Dearborn L'Amour was an American novelist and short story writer. His books consisted primarily of Western novels, though he called his work "frontier stories". His most widely known Western fiction works include Last of the Breed, Hondo, Shalako, and the Sackett series. L'Amour also wrote historical fiction (The Walking Drum), science fiction (The Haunted Mesa), non-fiction (Frontier), and poetry and short-story collections. Many of his stories were made into films. His books remain popular and most have gone through multiple printings. At the time of his death, almost all of his 105 existing works (89 novels, 14 short-story collections, and two full-length works of nonfiction) were still in print, and he was "one of the world's most popular writers".

It's nice to get these five books together in one collection for the less than the price you would pay for each title individually in the Amazon Kindle store. What I also appreciate is the Sackett books are in historical, not date written, order as you can chronicle the lives of the Sackett clan through early American history.

Louis L'Amour was not one of the most technical or long-winded writers, he was short, succinct, and to the point and had a way that grabs you into the story immediately. The descriptions of the scenery, events, people, and situations made you feel as if you were right there living it side-by-side with his characters.

With the first five books of the series, you not only have the classic Louis L'Amour situations with the good guy fighting the bad guy, a life-threatening conflict, the good guy wins and gets the girl, you also get more of a historical educational aspect of the life and times of late 1500 – 1600’s England and the New World.

As I type this review, this combination of the five stories is priced at $22.99, compared to $5.99 each if you bought them on a standalone basis in the Kindle format: the $22.99 for all five is a good value vs. approximately $30 on an individual basis - you'll get a lot more than $22.99 of entertainment out of these!

A friend has read most of Louis L'Amour so I had to try some. This contains the Tennessee based family that moves out to New Mexico and tussles with the American Indians, Mexicans, ranchos, bandits and all such characters. Good story telling, of course, but in today's standards a bit much into the golden-tanned, tough cowboy, who saves the world.

Awesome!!

I have been reading books by Louis L'Amour books since I was old enough to read. Growing up just across the border, in Montana, I was able to experience some of the western world he always writes about.

Fantastic

These are books that I have read over and never tiring of the stories on these pages. As I read I feel that I am walking along side of them through their travels and adventures. Louis L'Amour is the best at putting a story to into words to read.

Replacement for books lost to hurricane Ike

Over fifty years I had read and collected every paperback edition of L'Amour books when they were available starting in the nineteenth sixty.I spent many a night huddled in a shelterhaft or vehicle reading one of his book's.

A novel well worth reading.

A novel well worth your time to read. A epic story that is the basis of this country's people, heritage, and integrity. If you enjoy reading fiction based on history then please read Louis L'Amour "The Sacketts Volume One.

Wonderful characters and plots

The beginning to the Sackett legacy with Barnabus and the ones who follow and head westwards. Just magical and you can tell that Louis has been to the sites.

I have to say the Sacketts series is one of the best.

I wish there was at least one more book between Jubal Sackett and Ride the River to long of a period of time missing in this series in there

Awesome as per usual

I had said for a number of years that they should do a Compendium of the Sackett Novels glad to see that it's finely been presented 😊😊😊

Gripping, great reading!

Great read. Learned more American history than in high school and college even though in novel form. L'Amour is a master of historical fiction.

1st three are great. Jubal slows down and is less interesting, and Ride the River is a little boring

I read this to catch the last two stories Jubal and Ride the River, having previously read the others. Love the panoramic scope of Louis L'Amour's saga. The character's are rugged, righteous people; what we like to think of of the prototypical "Americans". The descriptions of the wilderness are magnificent and the stories and characters well drawn. My only issue is that the timelines for some of the journeys seem too short, but it doesn't really distract from the enjoyment.

The best books that I have ever read. With out a doubt.

I have every book he has ever written. I have been to places that he uses in his stories. It becomes a whole new experience when you have read about the place that you are at. I mourned his passing as I would have a family member. He will be missed by many avid readers of the wild west. I'm grateful that I was here for some of the best reading of the real cowboys bible that you will ever know. God Bless. I shall see him in heaven.
