Senior: I started at Benjamin Franklin High School during quarantine. It definitely was a strange transition, as I would be learning online for the first time. Although, my school developed a very good schedule which felt most beneficial to me and my peers. We had work time outside of class for homework and projects. Teachers still taught with the same integrity and grit which made me more ready to learn. When we finally switched to in person learning, being around so many new faces hit me really fast. I will say that it had taken me a while to fully adjust to my environment and my peers. I mainly focused on my academics sophomore year and had gotten used to taking more rigorous classes. Junior year I began to branch out and see what Franklin's social scene looked like. After joining numerous clubs and attending after school activities, I was able to meet my best friends. Senior: I'm a current senior at Newman & my experience has been positive in so many different ways at Newman. Newman encourages to be well rounded & engage in different activities. For example I am involved in the following activities: varsity soccer, cross country, & track, student government, ACTIONS (committee that organizes volunteer opportunities & educates the student body using a solution-focused mindset), and the visual arts & have been part of many exhibitions. The school community is very supportive and I know from personal experience that the resources they have available for student wellness & leaning challenges are exceptional and incredibly accessible. Academically, even the regular track in high school is advanced compared to most other schools and it is a highly focused environment with Honors and/or AP classes offered & encouraged in all subjects. Senior: The teachers are certainly the best part of LSMSA. I focused mainly on math, chemistry, and physics where every faculty member I came across was excellent. Nearly 100% of teachers at the school have doctorates and are received positively by most students. The school does not offer AP classes and instead only offers 'college level' classes that are seemingly just taught at a higher level. Students also enjoy a recently built dorm room that is a very high-quality building. Four students share a bathroom and shower and the dorm features a lounge, game room, study rooms, and a free kitchen. In recent years, I have noticed a shortage in faculty which has lead to many of the highest level classes (e.g., Calculus III, Vector Calculus, Chaos Theory, Nuclear Physics, etc.) being cut so that there are enough teachers for the lower level classes. While there are definitely some areas that could use some work, the students, administration, and teachers are all constantly working to better the school climate. I would honestly say that most of the problems that we face are not school specific, but are district related. Sophomore: As someone who has been attending Patrick F. Taylor since sixth grade, I can definitely attest to the campus’s ups and downs. Taylor undoubtedly takes prides in its academics, with stellar STEM programs, as well as a wide variety of liberal arts programs. Taylor also has many clubs and sports to choose from. Taylor lacks in its diversity, where around 50% of its campus is white and the other 50% is split between POC. The school climate is relatively positive with administrators planning many different activities like pep rally’s and treat pop ups (Kona Ice, Chick Fil A, and Italian Ice). Parent: ESA is fantastic. My son, Jacob, transferred to ESA as a Junior from a school approximately 90 miles away. Jacob knew no one and we, as a family, has zero experience with this school. I don't have the words to adequately express the degree to which the Administration and Faculty exceeded our expectations. From the minute Jacob walked on campus, everyone has been welcoming; friendly; sincerely interested in Jacob as a person and student; and have gone above and beyond to help him be successful while maintaining very high academic rigor. Senior: The Willow School is filled with students who’ve obtained the motivation to accomplish great things and faculty/staff who are willing to provide that life for them. My experience was extremely enjoyable and all four years spent in high school will be remembered as some of the best moments of my life. The social environment is so welcoming and amazing, making it easy to befriend students and the faculty/staff are always there to lend an ear or provide assistance for almost any situation. There are very few things I could complain about and I don’t feel like they deserve to be displayed because despite those downs, they are not a reflection of what this school is, what it stands for, and what it does for all involved in this organization. Senior: I have attended Berchmans Academy for 4 years, and I love it. The student enrollment is very small, and to most that may seem like a terrible thing, but actually it is the exact opposite. The low enrollment number allows for the students to have very close friendships with each other. With Berchmans being a low enrolled K-12 school, upperclassman know the lowerclassman and even the young kids on a first-name personal basis. Due to the low enrollment numbers, the students are given more one on one time with teachers. The teachers and all of the other staff are all awesome. The teachers are passionate about what they teach, which makes a huge difference in the learning environment. There are always new advancements coming into the school, whether it is a new lunch service or as simple as a new club. One major takeaway when I look back at my time at Berchmans, was that I was always respected by everyone, whether that be faculty to students. This school will always stay with me in life.... Senior: I adore Sacred Heart, and have since I first came in middle school. My favorite part of coming to school here is the school traditions and culture. Rally, St. Philippine, Mater, Gouter, and so many others is what draws me to Sacred Heart. That, and the community. What's so wonderful about my grade in particular is that we are so different, but act just like sisters. We never sugar-coat our experiences and there have been fights, but we always make up and, no matter what, will always be there for one another. The only thing that needs to change is our music and arts offerings. As a student interested in arts as a career, it feels like the arts are always shafted by the athletics (which are phenomenal). Junior: During my time at De La Salle High School, I have participated in many clubs and sports that require a lot of time and effort. My first experience with the school began in eighth grade when me and my classmates entered high school during the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge was very hard to overcome especially as a thirteen-year-old entering a brand new environment after a year of being trapped in a single environment for months on end. Senior: I have been a student at Ascension since Pre-k 3 and I can say that until recently I have loved all parts of my school. Recently there has been some issues with teachers about how they teach and how when I struggle I am forced to hire a tutor instead of being directly helped by the teacher. But, overall that is the only bad thing I can say about Ascension. I have made so many lifelong friends and have a good time everyday at school. Although I struggle with some teachers there are also others that I absolutely love and can’t wait to go to their class everyday. I just think that the way teachers act about students when they are struggling needs to change (not all teachers are bad when it comes to this issue only a few). Senior: My experience at Loyola College Preparatory has been highly satisfactory. I truly admire the teachers for their knowledge and approachability. The teachers and counselors at the school are always pushing students toward success. One thing I would like to see change is a near impossible ask. This is not necessarily specific to my school, but the change I would wish to see is a more welcoming environment. As a military child I came into high school with no connections. Unfortunately the society of the school, and perhaps that south as a whole, was welcoming, but only at face value. After about a week of my new high school, I realized there was a tight inner circle to which I was not welcome. My fellow peers were very kind to me, but I felt that I was nothing more to them than a good acquaintance because I had not grown up with them. Senior: During my time at Dunham, I have experienced the true care from my teachers and have seen the amount of effort they will put in for me if I will show the same. The teachers are also very qualified to be in the positions set before them and show this through their ability to teach their knowledge in a way students can understand clearly. The facility while safe with police guards all around campus, can use some repairs to the buildings. The students in The Dunham School very accepting to new students and while there are different friend groups, every group hangs out together. The athletic program is very impressive and I have personally seen many district championships and a volleyball state championship as well as been a part of the tennis state championship. The coaching staff is very rough on its players during practice but always stick to the schools values and pray after every game.
