So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JAMIE XX – “LET’S DO IT AGAIN”
Jamie xx hasn’t released a solo song in two years, but now he’s ready to do it again with this fun, disco-y song that he’s promising to play on tour this summer.

JOAN SHELLEY & NATHAN SALSBURG – “ENDLESS TIME” (THE WEATHER STATION COVER)
Joan Shelley, who just announced her new album The Spur, has teamed up with her husband/frequent collaborator Nathan Salsburg for a cover of one of the best songs from The Weather Station’s new album How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars. They recorded the cover outside in the rain, and it should come as no surprise that this is absolutely breathtaking.

CEREMONY – “VANITY SPAWNED BY FEAR” & “CALIFORNIA POPPY”
As Ceremony gear up for their tour with Turnstile, they’ve announced a new two-song 12″ single for Relapse, “Vanity Spawned By Fear” / “California Poppy,” and they’ve just shared the A-side, which finds them in poppy new wave mode with a skronky sax solo.

TALLIES – “HEARTS UNDERGROUND”
Toronto dreampop band Tallies have announced new album Patina which will be out July 29 via Kanine / Hand Drawn Dracula / Bella Union. They’ve also shared this sparkling first single that owes a lot too late-’80s UK alt-rock. “This song is that little voice that kicks yourself. The voice that says, ‘why’d you do that?,’ says the band’s Sarah Cogan “In this case, it was about how it holds me back, sometimes for the better. It’s about self-sabotage. Sometimes you wish this little voice would speak up sooner and not just after the fact. I wrote a song about that little voice that I’ve heard my whole life; it’s a reflection on times when I’ve held back too much or when I wish I’d held back more.”

JUST MUSTARD – “MIRRORS”
Irish band Just Mustard are back with another preview of their second album Heart Under, a hazy track full of dark romance. “‘Mirrors’ was one of the final songs to be written for ‘Heart Under,’” says guitarist and co-vocalist David Noonan the lyrics and music arrived together in what felt like one moment and we wanted to keep the feeling of one thought or moment constant throughout the song.”

SCALPING – “TETHER” FT DÆMON
UK electronic group Scalping will release their debut album Void later this month and they’ve just released this new single which features vocals from DÆMON, making their their first non-instrumental. “‘Tether’ was the first song that came together for the album back before the first lockdown and really felt like the start of the next chapter of the band,’ say Scalping. “Almost immediately we knew we wanted to get vocals on this track and we were tearing our hair out trying to find vocalists who felt appropriate. Between hearing DÆMON’s ‘DXE’ EP on Infinite Machine and his lyrics often centered around technology it seemed like an obvious fit.”

UFFIE – “SOPHIA”
Here’s another early taste of Uffie’s first album in over a decade. She co-wrote this housey track with Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bear.

LAUNDER – “UNWOUND” AND “CHIPPER”
L.A. musician John Cudlip has announced Happening, his debut album as Launder which will be out July 15 via Ghostly. “Unwound” and “Chipper” are both appealing slices of poppy shoegaze rock.

ALEX IZENBERG – “SORROWS BLUE TAPESTRY”
Alex Izenberg will release new album I’m Not from Here on May 20 via Domino Records’ Weird World imprint. “All of my music is a defensive responsive to my environment that is as constantly changing as my thoughts are,” says Alex of the album’s first single. “I wrote ‘Sorrows Blue Tapestry’ about my dog Larks after she died, I realized I was going to die too and I stopped eating meat and started writing songs that were more influenced by my environment as a practice of acknowledging that we’re all rays of the same Sun rather than 6 billion separate minds, coping with the fact that if you love someone they will always be with you, even if they die, you feel them.”

100 GECS – “DORITOS & FRITOS”
We still don’t know when 100 gecs’ anticipated new album 10000 gecs is due out, but they’ve shared the second taste of it, “Doritos & Fritos,” which, like lead single Mememe,” pulls from ska, emo-pop, and EDM in the duo’s unmistakable style.

JOSH ROUSE – “HOLLOW MOON”
Veteran singer/songwriter Josh Rouse has announced a new album, Going Places, due July 29 via Yep Roc, and the first single is the very likable “Hollow Moon,” of which Josh says, “‘Hollow Moon’ started as a guitar riff on my voice memo with what sounded like me mumbling ‘hollow moon’ over and over. Through the course of several decades, I’ve learned it’s best to stick to the original mumble whether it has meaning or not. I came up with some lonely, only-child verses and sent them to Matt Costa to lay some of his Kinksish harmonies. Very catchy. Perhaps a hit.”

HANS GRUBER AND THE DIE HARDS – “NO NO BRONTO”
After injecting cumbia into their sound with the first single off upcoming album With A Vengeance, Hans Gruber and the Die Hards dive into their heavy ska-core side on the scorching second single “No No Bronto.”

LIMBS – “COMA YEAR”
LIMBS will release a new EP, Coma Year, on June 24 via UNFD, and the title track is big, soaring, anthemic dose of metallic post-hardcore. Catch them on tour with Greyhaven and The Callous Daoboys soon.

WARTHOG – “FOUR WALLS”
New York hardcore band Warthog have announced a new self-titled, three-song EP, due May 6 via Toxic State (US)/Static Shock (UK), and the first single is the thrashy opening track “Four Walls.”

TOKIMONSTA – “LOVED BY U” (ft. MORGXN)
TOKiMONSTA teams with morgxn for the thumping, electronic alt-pop of “Loved By U.”

DEAD TIRED (ALEXISONFIRE) – “DOMESTIC” & “NEW WORLD PIGS”
Dead Tired, another band fronted by Alexisonfire co-vocalist George Pettit, will release their new album Satan Will Follow You Home on July 8 via New Damage Records, and two songs are out now: the sludgy post-hardcore of “Domestic” and the more whiplash-inducing punk of “New World Pigs.”

OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW – “GLORYLAND”
Old Crow Medicine Show’s new album Paint This Town comes out April 22 via ATO, and latest single “Gloryland” is a protest song that injects some gospel harmonies into the band’s bluegrassy sound. They’re also gearing up for a tour, including a show at NYC’s Webster Hall on May 6.

EYEDRESS – “SMOKE & MIRRORS” (ft. NA-KEL SMITH, BOOFPAXKMOOKY, CASHCACHE)
LA hip hop producer Eyedress is about to play Coachella, but first, he put out this hazy new single featuring Na-kel Smith, BOOFPAXKMOOKY and CASHCACHE.

MAPACHE – “LOVE CAN’T HOLD ME”
Mapache pull influence from the Grateful Dead and Loaded-era Velvet Underground on their new single “Love Can’t Hold Me,” and you can definitely hear both of those things coming through on this breezy song.

TIM KASHER – “WHAT ARE WE DOING”
Middling Age, the new album from Tim Kasher, is out on Friday, and ahead of its release he’s shared one more new single, “What Are We Doing,” which features horns and cello from Cursive’s Patrick Newbery and Megan Siebe, respecitvely. The song “was written in my current home of LA, and though it references it specifically, it’s more accurately an indictment of the US and/or any first world society—the excess we expend at the expense of others,” Tim says. “As a member of said society, I indict myself as well in the song; my hands are just as dirty as the next entitled citizen, benefitting from a ‘grab-n-go’ economy. As is often my preference, the brighter and more melodic a song is, the harder I tend to downturn the lyrics, as I’ve attempted here on this catchy little number, wagging the finger at myself and all of us privileged folk for continually exploiting and taking for granted this system that seems to have been created exclusively for those more fortunate.”

LEYLA MCCALLA – “DODININ”
As mentioned, Leyla McCalla (Our Native Daughters, ex-Carolina Chocolate Drops) releases her new solo album Breaking The Thermometer on 5/6 via ANTI-, and new single “Dodinin” is a cover of the Haitian protest song “Dodinin” that Leyla told The FADER she discovered on an album by Atis Independan, a collective of Haitian artists in exile in New York in the 1980s. “This song is about revolution and really serves as a tribute to the revolutionary spirit of the enslaved peoples of Saint Dominique who overthrew the colonial powers and created the nation state of Haiti,” she says.

GEORGIA HARMER – “TOP DOWN”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Georgia Harmer’s debut album, Stay in Touch, is due out next week via Arts & Crafts, and ahead of its release she’s shared the folky indie rock track “Top Down,” which she says is “about feeling frustrated by my own powerlessness. It’s about feeling very young and small, and not being able to control or change anything happening around me, in my personal life, and in the bigger picture. I was trying to help a friend out of a dark place, and struggling with my own type of dark place that goes along with coming of age and wondering – what exactly is my role in this big, sad, beautiful world?”

JORDANA – “TO THE GROUND”
Jordana’s debut LP Face The Wall is due out next month via Grand Jury, and the latest single is “To the Ground.” “It’s about being alone and starting from square one, not knowing how and where to start, a venture into adulthood,” Jordana says. “With the path to growing up, it’s wanting to not ask for any help on any growth to feel accomplished and self brought up, emotionally and physically. The only help being asked for in this song is to be stripped completely and figuratively thrown to the ground to get back up.”

RED CITY RADIO – “IN THE MEANTIME…” (LIVE AT GOTHIC THEATER)
Oklahoma City punks Red City Radio are releasing a new live LP, Live At Gothic Theatre, on May 6 via Pure Noise, and this song/video gives you a great taste of how much this band rips on stage.

KISSKADEE – “BLACK HOLE ERA”
Kasie Shabaz is releasing a new album as Kisskadee, Black Hole Era, due out MAy 6 via Anxiety Blanket Records, and the latest single is the shimmering, shapeshifting title track. “This song, and the record, are about exploring the myths, mysteries, and possibilities beyond death,” Shabaz says. “I sing ‘Stars shake the atmosphere, will I ever let go of this fear? Will a solid moment appear?’ Amongst the narrative arc of the record, this is where the narrator stands alone with the power and terrifying beauty of the universe, asking what meaning she dares to make. I allude to a Christian mystic myth when I sing of a black hole raising her corpse from the dead- the universe going through the same life, death, and resurrection cycle as the Christ figure. As the pop elements of this song merge with the noise elements of the song, so do human elements of energy emerge from the cosmic soup. Lyrically and musically, ‘Black Hole Era’ explores the contradictions of life and death, human and unhuman, and asks what they all mean for the individual’s will to love.”

MERZBOW & LAWRENCE ENGLISH – “A GATE OF LIGHT”
Japanese noise legend Merzbow and Australian composer Lawrence English will release a collaborative album, Eternal Stalker, on June 3 via Dais Records, and here’s the static-y, white-noise lead single.

THE INTERRUPTERS – “IN THE MIRROR”
The Interrupters have announced their first album in four years (and first since their big singles “She’s Kerosene” and “Gave You Everything” helped re-popularize ska-punk), and it features contributions from members of Rancid, The Bodysnatchers, Hepcat, and The Skints. BUILT TO SPILL – “GONNA LOSE”
Built to Spill have announced When the Wind Forgets Your Name, their anticipated ninth studio album and first for Sub Pop, that will be out September 9. Doug Martsch produced the album and he made it with Le Almeida and João Casaes of Brazilian psychedelic jazz rock band, Oruã.

ROBIN CAROLAN AND SEBASTIAN GAINSBOROUGH – “STORM AT SEA / YGGDRASILL” (THE NORTHMAN SOUNDTRACK)
Robin Carolan (Tri Angle Records founder) and Sebastian Gainsborough (Vessel) have scored Robert Eggers anticipated new film The Northman that stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Bjork. “It was a bizarre, exhilarating and a generally batshit-crazy project to be a part of, let alone be the first score either of us have worked on,” Gainsborough says. BILLY NOMATES – “BLUE BONES”
Bristol, England’s Billy Nomates has just released her first single of 2022, an immediately infectious song that owes a little to country, a little to pop and sounds only like her.“Like everything I write, after I’ve written it I spend the following months unraveling what it’s about,” says Billy. “I think Blue Bones is a candid conversation with my own depression. A part of me I have to talk to.” Let’s hope there’s an album to go with this soon.

TIM HEIDECKER – “BUDDY”
Tim Heidecker has announced a new album, High School, that will be out June 24 on Spacebomb Recordings. The album was produced by Heidecker, Drew Erickson (Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty), Eric D. Johnson (Bonny Light Horseman, Fruit Bats) and Mac DeMarco, and Kurt Vile plays on one song, too. Here’s the somber first single.

DESIRE – “TELLING ME LIES”
Desire, the duo of Megan Louise and producer Johnny Jewel (Chromatics, Glass Candy), have announced Escape, their first album in a decade, that will be out May 3 via Italians Do it Better. (The album was originally set for a 2020 release.) With the announcement comes a new single, “Telling Me Lies,” that has that same slinky cool as “Under Your Spell,” their hit from the Drive soundtrack.
