Fox News Contributor Slams Trump Trying to Scuttle Border Security Deal ‘So He Can Run on It’ In November

Fox News liberal commentator Marie Harf fought it out with her Outnumbered colleagues after accusing Republicans of standing in the way of compromise in order to boost Donald Trump at President Joe Biden’s political expense.

The argument began on Thursday as the panel talked about Texas officials railing against the Biden administration after the Supreme Court ordered the state to allow federal border agents access a section of the state’s Mexican border and remove razor wire left there by Texas officials. As Harf brought up the Supreme Court ruling, she turned the conversation to how Trump is pressuring Republicans to go against any bipartisan spending deal that holds a compromise on immigration and border security.

“Yesterday, Mitch McConnell told the Republican caucus they are in tough position because Trump does not want Biden to be able to ‘get a win’ on this by signing something, even though signing that piece of bipartisan legislation would help with the border,” Harf said. “There are a lot of Republicans who believe that this compromise — Democrats control the Senate and Republicans control the House. We have to compromise. They are close. Donald Trump is telling his allies not to vote for it so he can run on it in November. That, to me, is dereliction of duty.”

Ari Fleischer responded to that by claiming “the votes weren’t there” regardless of Trump’s input, and “there’s not enough support for a compromise.”

“You just framed it like Donald Trump swanned into the Senate and is bullying McConnell,” Dagen McDowell added.

“That’s exactly what he’s doing,” Harf said while McDowell called that “horse manure” and claimed Harf was parroting “the media.”
