“I had to leave the @AmericanIdol competition for personal reasons but am so thankful I get to play music for the rest of my life,” Pike tweeted on Wednesday. “Fellow contestants —miss you all, good luck! Thank you to everyone for your support … do stick around for more musical things soon!”
In Pike’s announcement on Instagram, several “Idol” contestants — including Madison Watkins, Alanis Sophia and Grace Kinstler — left comments of support for Pike, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Park City, Utah.
“So much love for you Wyatt!!!” Kinstler commented. “You are going to do AMAZING things; I cannot wait to watch it all unfold for you.”
The news of Pike’s departure from “Idol” was a bombshell. Pike, who had just made the top 12, was a favorite among the judges and fans, the Deseret News reported.
For what would end up being his last performance on “Idol,” which aired Sunday night, Pike performed Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and drew high praise.
“I remember one of the coolest things that ever happened to me is the day I realized that I get to do music forever, under any circumstance,” Bryan said, according to the Deseret News. “And I’m telling you, Wyatt, you’re going to be able to do music for the rest of your life.”
