Days mashup, Sloan looking uncomfortable with Kayla, EJ, Eric and Nicole crowded around the baby

We know what you’re thinking. DNA test on Days of Our Lives? Didn’t Sloan deal with that already? Twice? She did! Mostly. The second time is debatable as it seemed like she may have messed up the swap and leave EJ with the real test that proves he’s not the father of Nicole’s baby. That little puppy had been sitting in the DiMera living room safe, potentially waiting to be unearthed.

But why would EJ and Nicole even bother doing anything but throwing that out now that they believe their baby is dead?

Actually, we should amend that because only EJ thinks their baby is dead. Nicole is certain that he’s alive and well — and with Eric! It’s a belief that’s not just heartbreaking because it’s true, but because everyone around Nicole is treating her like she’s lost her mind. In reality, she’s the only one who’s actually realized what happened. Or at least part of what happened!

In the DiMera mansion, EJ holds a heartbroken Nicole to his chest.

And that belief, along with everyone else’s certainty that she’s losing her mind, may oddly enough save the day. Because once Nicole turns to her daughter, Holly, of all people, may be the one to blow Sloan’s lies out of the water. Because when Greg Vaughan spoke with Soap Opera Digest, he revealed that after Nicole confides her belief that Eric’s new baby is hers, Holly runs off to her former step-dad with an idea to help Nicole once and for all.

Eric wants to move on with his baby, but he also wants to help Nicole. So what better way than a DNA test on the baby to prove he’s not Nicole’s? That’s if Sloan doesn’t put a stop to it first. Because make no mistake, if she knew about it, Sloan could probably talk Eric out of the idea. As Vaughan explained to Digest, “She is so good. She covers her tracks well. And she’s always got an answer for anything and everything.”

But in one of those cosmic twists of fate, he just doesn’t get a chance to talk to her. Sloan’s a busy woman with a busy career. Plus, she’s got Dimitri and Leo breathing down her neck. So instead, Eric starts the ball rolling with Kayla and thinks, “‘I’ve got to make an executive decision. This is going to be the best for all parties involved.’ He needs to move forward. Nicole needs to move forward. Let’s get the facts.”

The facts, though, are not good for Sloan. But they do support Nicole, no matter what everyone around her may think.

Still, Eric’s DNA test may only hold the key to one half of the puzzle if it shows that the baby is Nicole’s. The other half, as we noted at the beginning, may be sitting snuggly in EJ’s safe. And once EJ and Nicole get their baby back, they may decide it’s time to break that test out to get a refresher course on what they need to do to make sure they keep their son safe and healthy and never risk losing him again.

That’s not good for EJ. And it’s even worse for Sloan. She’ll be in enough trouble as it is, unless she manages to claim innocence and throw Melinda under the bus for the baby swap. Throw in DNA tampering that really will cost EJ “his” son, and she’ll find herself up against not just an irate DiMera, but also the powerful, furious DA, ready to strip her legal license and toss her into the deepest hole he can.
