Doki Doki Takeover! (Full name: Friday Night Funkin: Doki Doki Takeover!) is a Friday Night Funkin' mod developed by DusterBuster and Team TBD, based on Team Salvato's 2017 visual novel indie horror game, Doki Doki Literature Club! and its remaster, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!.

Initially released as a reskin mod for Senpai in early 2021, it eventually becomes a full week mod by June 2021, and later further into a DDLC-centric mod by late 2021, featuring the rest of the literature club members.

As of April 2023, this mod has received over 2 million views, 700 thousand downloads and 1 thousand likes in total on GameBanana page.

Story's Context/Description

  • Taken from the mod description on GameBanana.

Prologue: Just Monika

Boyfriend and Girlfriend return to the Hating Sim, and find a new person inside this time around, being Monika. She doesn't know how she got there, but she's happy to put on a show. Until things start to go wrong-

Update: Doki Doki Takeover

After Boyfriend and Girlfriend are freed from Monika's game manipulation, they soon find themselves in Monika's very own clubroom while she's still stuck in the Hating Sim. They come across her other club members: Sayori, Natsuki, and Yuri. Like usual FNF fashion, singing ensues. How does the rest of the Literature Club fare in a good ol' rap battle?

The Final Sendoff! Doki Doki Takeover! Plus

"After a year's worth of work, the final update to Friday Night Funkin' Doki Doki Takeover is here! Presenting, Doki Doki Takeover Plus!"

"The FNF and DDLC worlds have entangled, causing unusual things to occur when Monika finds herself in the Hating Sim and when Boyfriend and Girlfriend wind up in the Literature Club. How shall things fare for these three and the rest of the club?"

Plot

Main Story

Prologue: Just Monika

DDTO W1 Ending3

Senpai and Monika talking in the ending of the first week.

Taking place after the third act of Doki Doki Literature Club, Monika's data was transferred into Hating Simulator after being deleted from the game. Initially confused, Boyfriend offered her a microphone to sing along. She digressed and started singing with Boyfriend until Senpai showed up. Furious after their initial encounter, both Senpai and Monika started fighting over a microphone.

Eventually, Monika decided to remove the Hating Simulator with everyone in it temporarily except Boyfriend, who was furious after seeing Girlfriend being deleted. Monika sang one more song before restoring the game's data prior to deletion. Monika then later explained to Senpai regarding what happened earlier, with the latter asking for another song.

The Literature Club: Doki Doki Takeover!

DDTO SayoriIntro

Boyfriend offering the literature club girls upon arrival to rap with a microphone.

After the events of Prologue: Just Monika, Boyfriend and Girlfriend get transported into the Club Room in another program and meets all the other club members, with Boyfriend offering them to partake in rap battles with him. Everything started to go smooth sailing, but then later after Obsession, things started to take a turn. All the girls started to become corrupted, including Girlfriend, with a terrified and shook Boyfriend beside her. Because of Monika's .chr file being absent from the game, Sayori was the one who inherited the 'club president' role, making her being aware that they are all trapped in a game. Sayori knew what Monika had done to her and to the other club members, she "thanked" Boyfriend for deleting her and says that now they could sing, and be happy "forever".

Back in the Hating Simulator, Monika was talking with Senpai about her actions and wrongdoings during her time in the club. As she expressed about a decision by having her erased from the game just to make the other girls feel happiness, she suddenly sees that things were going wrong back in the place she was created. She hesitates on attempting to go back there by programming her glitching out of the game, and successfully, she did. She resets the timeline back to the starting point when both Boyfriend and Girlfriend meets the rest of the club, except Monika herself. Relieved, she offered Boyfriend another song once more for a reconciliation.

Later, the two finally met MC, who thought he might have missed them when he got into the club. The school had a plan to host a festival. They gave MC a backlog of songs to choose from for the event. Later at the festival, all the members of the club, except MC, started to sing their favorite songs by using the CD's to sing with Boyfriend. After the events of the festival week, Monika talks to Boyfriend if that he can visit another time in some kind of way.

Interlude: Our Harmony

DDTO OurHarmony CG2

The Literature Club girls giving out laughter and cheer after concluded their song.

Few days after the Festival week, Monika, now standing alone inside in the school's music room, reflects on everything that has happened so far. Natsuki arrives in an uneasy feeling and confesses to Monika regarding of being overshadowed by everyone now that the club has grown more than usual. Monika then comforts her by offering her to sing alongside to give confidence. Later, Yuri shows up after Natsuki departed to thank Monika for giving her more confidence and gives her a new song she wrote.

Finally, Sayori arrives at the music room with a smile, thanking Monika for being grateful to start the club and more. In a burst of melancholic happiness, Monika walks over and hugs Sayori. Shortly after, they decided to start singing. Natsuki and Yuri arrives once more right after the two finished and once more began a new performance with all four girls.

Meanwhile back on the clubroom, MC asks Boyfriend and Girlfriend about impressing the girls by singing without feeling embarrassed. Giving up from refraining himself from singing, he decides to give it a shot. The girls sneaked into the room without him noticing. They congratulate him for taking the bullet, much to his embarrassment.

Epilogue: You and Me

Few days passed since Boyfriend and Girlfriend's departure from the club, it has returned to the original 5 members. The days then continued as normal, and everything very thing went smoothly, especially MC. A new flower of friendship has bloomed ever since, even if they're outside the clubroom. As their days of normalcy began, suddenly, two familiar faces arrived in front of a white light, offering them to follow.

Youandme5

Monika hugging Boyfriend and Girlfriend while bursting into tears of joy.

One by one, they arrived in a nightlife landscape. With the moon shining over the skies, Monika realized that they have finally out of the game, with Boyfriend telling her that the computer is the gateway between the worlds. Overwhelmed with emotions, Monika hugged Boyfriend and Girlfriend while bursting into tears of joy, thanking them for giving out an opportunity to explore a new world. She finally got a chance to find a special someone she has been looking for and learn to love in 'your reality'.

Side-Stories

Once the player completes the main story, side-stories can be accessed.

Love n' Funkin

Lovenfunkin

Girlfriend with the Literature Club girls.

Despite the club going back to their usual ways, Boyfriend and Girlfriend visits them every now and then. However, on that time, neither Boyfriend and MC made into the club's meeting, leaving the four girls and Girlfriend. They questioned Girlfriend if she was the quiet type, since Boyfriend did all the vocal representation. Monika asks her if she would like to write a love song for Boyfriend, which she accepts.

As she finishes writing her lyrics, she gave it to the girls, which in turn, their expressions turned shock and confusion due to the 'explicit' contents of her writing.

There is a alternate mix for this in which Pico replaces Girlfriend and is the main playable cover of this song.

Catfight

On a normal day in the club, Natsuki demonstrates her fast singing skills to Yuri. Yuri was impressed with her lyrical feats, with Natsuki trying to compliment her having an actual good vocal chords for singing. Natsuki complained that Yuri tried to make her vocals sounded perfect, while the latter stated that Natsuki got confidence to attempt faster vocalization. Both Yuri and Natsuki eventually started a 'catfight'. Whilst the two girls rambling at each other, Sayori attempted to barge in, but immediately got shot down by both of the girls.

Eventually Yuri and Natsuki got tired over a fight, Sayori asks for some hospitality with tea and cookies. They both accepted the offer.

Constricted

Monika welcomes the three girls back and asks them what they experienced after returning from Boyfriend and Girlfriend's hometown. Natsuki had a screaming competition with a certain rock star and won, with the latter asking for a rematch next week. Yuri, on the other hand, had extra cash on hand and went on a dinner on a nice restaurant. She met a certain figure who shares her similar interests, with them being intrigued over their two new club members.

After having a brief inner thought about finding her true love, she asks Sayori if she met any new friends. Sayori was excited that she founded a new friend that was following her around. She asks if she can greet her new friend to the club, which Monika accepts. Sayori welcomes a new friend to the club. Natsuki, on a panic attack, screams and tells her to put it back where it came from.

Wilted

Wilted3

Spirit encountering Senpai for the first time after discovering inner coding inside Hating Simulator.

Senpai, now feeling emptied after Monika's departure but never forgotten their encounter, discovers that his world is just like her's, being nothing but lines of code. He decided to dig deeper into the game and encountered Spirit for the first time. Sharing the same hatred for the Dearest family and their followers, he asks that they should work together for revenge. However, still under pressure from their last encounter, Senpai had so many thoughts and attempts to reconcile with Monika once more, to which he succeeded.

Monika was surprised to see him. Senpai thanked her for realizing that they weren't so different after all, to which Monika started feeling worried that he might go down the same path as she did. He offered a hand to join him on an eternal bliss, but she immediately rejected him, as she has already set her heart on someone else. Furious, he eventually calmed down and asks for another song for the reunion.

To no avail, Monika exits the program space. Spirit states that while both of them were busy, he had discovered that they have a gateway back to their original world. He states that he will possess Boyfriend and leave the game the next time they come back to the digital world.

TheThirdEye

The Third Eye

On a stormy night, a computer sitting in a dark room booted up. A zipped file named "PROJECT_LIBITINA" is extracted from a notebook of the Metaverse Enterprise Solutions, decoding binary codes and attempting to access something unknown. A white-haired woman with a third eye is presumably trying to escape the notebook. Eventually, the woman managed to flee and walks in a street, followed by some people. She was last seen opening her third eye.

Development

The Doki Doki Takeover mod was initially made by a group of 7 people but has received contributions from about 9 people in total. By the time Plus update is out, it received contributions of more than 40 people, establishing Team TBD along the way.

Monika over Senpai/ Monika Full Week!

Initially released as a reskin for Senpai on February 7, 2021, with a small teaser posted by Duster 5 days prior[1]. It was eventually released as a full week on June 9, 2021 with 3 new songs replacing the pre-existing ones, and was re-released on the 30th with some changes.

Doki Doki Takeover!

On October 27, 2021, a major update featuring three other girls was released, with the title now changed into Friday Night Funkin': Doki Doki Takeover!. It includes 12+ songs, including 5+ freeplay unlockable songs (each unlock after completing a certain week), and remixes for the Festival week, consisting of:

MC was featured in the mod but was never as an opponent, until the release of Doki Doki Takeover Plus update.

Doki Doki Takeover Plus!

Initially to be planned to release around 2022, it was however pushed back due to delays and unfortunate circumstances.

On February 15, a teaser for the final trailer of Doki Doki Takeover Plus was uploaded[2]. Being a huge final major update, titled 'Friday Night Funkin': Doki Doki Takeover! Plus' was released on March 12. It adds 2 more weeks, with MC having his own week and serving as an epilogue story to the mod and a number of side-stories, bringing up to over 30 songs in total.

This update also adds costumes feature to playable characters, ranging from the usual school attire, casual and more. Other unlockable menus such as Gallery and Sticker menu was added to the mod, featuring various concept artwork and fan-art from the community. It also features 'Mirror Mode' where the player can play as the opponent instead of the playable character.

As of April 13, 2023, Jorge released what is potentially the last minor patch update to the game, bringing an end to the development of the mod as a whole and addressing that Team TBD wanted to move on from Doki Doki Takeover and work on other projects[3].

Final Farewell Mini-Update

DDTOPlus EveUpdateTeaser

Final Farewell Mini-Update teaser image, with Pico being an upcoming playable character.

However as of November 30 on Duster's stream, it was announced that Doki Doki Takeover will have "A Final Farewell Mini-Update" and it's alternate Bad Ending update "The Unfair Update", both would be releasing on December 24 on Christmas Eve, alongside other projects like Flavor Rave updates and VS. Infinite[4].

It features 3 all-new remixes of pre-existing DDTO songs featuring with Tankman, the Spooky Kids, and Pico. It also contained some quality of life changes, bug fixes and small additions. [5] Duster also stated that this DDTO and Bad Ending updates will be confirmed the final ones for 2023.[6]

Songs

On February 7, 2021, DusterBuster uploaded the Monika mod to GameBanana, which at the time only had one song, "High School Conflict," composed by FruityDaLei, vocals by Galactigal, and mastered by Retro Gaming. For the next 2 months, nothing much would be said about the mod or if any further songs would be made. On March 26, Duster announced on his Twitter that the team was missing a song to complete the 3-song week, and that FruityDaLei had already completed the instrumental of the song for The Last Song.

On May 20, 2021, an update for the Monika mod, titled "The Pre-Full Week Update" was released, serving as a teaser of changes to come to the future Full Week update. This included a complete recharting of High School Conflict, along with some minor tweaks and additions like revised dialogue and new sprites for Girlfriend, giving her a uniform matching the Doki's from Doki Doki Literature Club.

On October 27 2021, another update was released, named "Doki Doki Takeover!", Which included a little rechart for High School Conflict, More Songs, A complete overhaul for the menu, and New Doki Designs for both Boyfriend and Girlfriend which gives them a uniform matching The Doki's.

The song was replaced and remade when the Plus update was released, this time composed by GGalactigal. It was initially made for an extra week for Monika as a revisited song, however due to unfortunate circumstances with the former composer, alongside with other two first week songs, it was replaced as the primary song instead.

Bara No Yume was composed by JACKALRUIN. This song was released alongside the release of Monika Full Week Rebooted on June 30. "Bara No Yume" translates to "Dream of Roses" in Japanese.

The song was remade when the Plus update was released.

In a couple of Twitter threads, we found out a lot more about the third song: Your Demise. The instrumental of the song was uploaded on the morning of May 9 of the same year by FruityDaLei. The instrumental was mastered by Retro Gaming, and this song uses The Notes of Markov.

Composed by Saruky and released back on July 3 on Saruky's YouTube channel. It has been reworked ever since Doki Doki Takeover! came out.

With the arrival of Doki Doki Takeover! Plus, it was planned to make a third version of this song, however due to lack of time this was discarded, and it was stand just as an update for Monika's vocals.

Composed by Stardust Tunes and released back on June 30 on Stardust Tunes' Channel.

With the arrival of Doki Doki Takeover! Plus, Monika's chromatics were changed in this song, in addition to minimal changes in the vocals and mixing.

Composed by Matt$, Monika can be seen in this. Notes of Markov are used through nearly the whole song. Near the end of the song, a popup will show up saying it is clearing unverified files from the game; at the end of the song, Monika is deleted.

A vocalized version of the song was sung by Carimelle, with lyrics written by Juno Songs.

Initially titled 'Gettin' Doki'd', on June 5, the creator of VS. Kiryu and programmer of VS. Cyrix put out a title of the final Monika menu music for a near release teaser. This menu music is a mashup of the Doki Doki Literature Club! main menu theme and the Friday Night Funkin' main menu theme. This was later re-worked into a new version, composed by FruityDaLei and Wreach. On the release of Plus update, the menu theme was remade once more, this time by DPZ.

The pause music is composed by Tony Astro. It was also used on the Costume selection menu.

The cutscene musics were composed by HighPoweredKeyz. Pixel Monika, Sayori and Natsuki's cutscene music were also used on Credits, Art Gallery and Sticker menu respectively.

Senpai's Death Theme is a music box rendition of the song "Senpai" used when Senpai gets a game over in Your Reality.

In the Github version and the Post Reboot update of the mod, there is a hidden song named "Erb." The audio is taken from Goku VS Superman, a Epic Rap Battles of History video. It is only charted on Normal difficulty. Boyfriend's notes match those from Goku, and the opponent, in this case being Monika & Senpai (just Senpai in older versions), has notes matching those from Superman. However, only Monika is singing in this song due to the alternate animation not being switched on for the charting.

Composed by DPZ, this secret song features Jill Stingray from Va11-Hall-A as the opponent, with other major characters from the game as background character cameos, such as Dorothy, Dana and Alma. The primary reason VA11 Hall-A was chosen was simply due to Duster liking the game itself, and also being a visual novel game like DDLC as well on one of his Twitch streams.

Composed by JACKALRUIN, this final song features an application, titled 'Project: Libitina', from Metaverse Enterprise Solutions Operating System.

Gameplay Mechanics and Features

Notes of Markov

During Your Demise, Obsession, and Epiphany, black notes with red eyes will sometimes show up. Hitting these notes will kill the player instantly like the black halo notes from the Tricky mod.

  • The notes will slowly become more frequent as each song progresses.
  • These do not appear on Easy difficulty.
  • If playing any of the 3 songs on Mirror Mode, the Notes of Markov must instead be hit like normal notes. Missing them will deal notable damage, and can even kill the player if neglected too much.

Trivia

  • Monika is the first-ever mod character to fully take after Senpai's sprite style and keep it close to the source material.
  • Monika's sprites all face the screen instead of Boyfriend; this references her forward-facing sprites in DDLC and self-awareness.
  • This is one of the first mods to depict Senpai accurately, rather than making him aware of being trapped in a game.
  • Monika was speculated to be the sister of Senpai, but this was never evidenced in DDLC, and was promptly disconfirmed by Ninjamuffin99 in a Reddit AMA.
  • Monika's first song, "High School Conflict," is a remix of Poem Panic! and DDLC's main motif, with the latter described in a YouTube comment by FruityDaLei as being based specifically off Dreams of Love and Literature.
  • The second song of Monika's prologue week, "Bara No Yume", is one of the first modded songs to have two opponents singing separately, meaning the antagonists have two voice tracks instead of one; similar to Cocoa and Eggnog from Week 5 of the main Friday Night Funkin' game.
  • In "Bara No Yume", Senpai sings parts of "Roses".
  • Monika's third song, "Your Demise," is a darker rendition of DDLC's Your Reality mixed with FNF's Thorns, which includes a BPM that changes twice throughout the song.
  • Monika briefly appears in the Kickstarter trailer for Friday Night Funkin': The Full Ass Game, in the portion featuring community-created content.
  • The dialogue implies that this takes place before Monika's character file gets deleted in DDLC, or she is not aware of some of the events that had taken place in the main game.
  • In DDLC, Monika has stated that she doesn't care if the player is a girl or a boy, which may mean she is pansexual.
  • There were plans to include special notes that harmed the player in the initial release, inspired by Friday Night Funkin' HD.[7] At the time, it was cut likely due to time constraints,[8] though the release of the "Rebooted!" update would implement these special notes as the "Notes of Markov."
  • Clicking O or P on the Main Menu of Monika will change the background to the Transgender pride flag background variation of the Monika BG or the "Monika's Friends!" art by DusterBuster.
  • Pressing O and P together on Your Demise will result in the background behind the classroom windows changing to the placeholder used before the current one was completed. This background features Ray William Johnson as Goku from Goku VS Superman, a Epic Rap Battles of History video and also Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles. In the Doki Doki Takeover update, Mr. Incredible was replaced by a black and white image of Chris Pratt used in the Mario movie casting. This can also be seen in Dual Demise.
    • Pressing G and enter on Jorge - SunSpirit's icon in the credits of the Monika Devs will also send the player to the same Goku VS Superman video.
  • Most of Monika's glitched poses during "Your Demise" reference various scares and distortions from her home game.
    • Her up pose references the jumpscare in Act 3 that only occurs if the game detects that it's being recorded by streaming applications such as OBS.
    • Her right pose is a reference to the "Ghost" easter egg in DDLC, where the girls on the menu screen would become monochromatic and eyeless. Closing the game during this easter egg would abruptly zoom in on Monika before the window closes.
    • Her left pose references Natsuki's "Play With Me" scene in Act 2, if the player had written two poems for Natsuki.
      • This is also referenced with Girlfriend on the mock System Error screen.
    • Uniquely, Monika's down pose references Friday Night Funkin' rather than DDLC—calling back to the severed Girlfriend head in Week 5, rather than the Corruption mod.[9]
  • The background seen in Your Demise is the same room in Act 3 where the player meets with Monika.
  • In the fatal error screen after Bara no Yume, the first two lines are actually a reference to Cyrix's dialogue in SYSTEM CRASH.
  • As stated in this thread:
    • Monika's Week takes place after Act 3 of DDLC (before she is deleted) and after FNF Week 6.
    • DDLC and Hating Sim both exist as video games in the FNF world.
    • Girlfriend is the one who played DDLC and wanted to bring Monika into the Hating Sim.
    • Senpai and the BG Freaks don't remember what happened after Roses in Week 6.
    • Monika isn't aware that GF was the person who played her game, mostly due to the fact that she's also in a video game when they meet.
    • Monika doesn't know anything about the Spirit.
  • Monika deletes the Spirit's .xml file, despite the fact it is actually a .txt file. This is likely an oversight.
    • In addition, when Monika deletes Girlfriend, she deletes a file that doesn't exist within the game's files. The file associated with Girlfriend is called "GF_assets.xml", while the one Monika deletes is called "girlfriend.xml". This is likely another oversight.
  • Monika is one of the few pixel characters that actually have danger icons.
  • In Your Demise, the words "JUST MONIKA" are spelled out in Notes of Markov. However, it humorously appears to spell out "JUST HONIKA" because of the difficulty creating an accurate letter M with only 4 rows.
  • In order to place Notes of Markov in the charting menu, the ALT key must be held down.
  • In Glitcher (Monika Mix), Boyfriend's vocals are sampled from All of Week 1 and Cocoa.
  • There used to be a song preview in the sounds folder of the mod titled BEYOND_PREVIEW.ogg. This track was composed by Kallionic, but has since been removed from the game's files.
  • Epiphany, the last song unlockable in Freeplay, is a 4th wall breaking, first-person perspective song; similar to Times & Tribulations' Hivemind Minus eteled's System Failure, or Gold's Monochrome.
    • The Monika fought in this song was explained to be a different Monika, being the one the player had deleted in their own run of DDLC (the mod assumes the player has played DDLC).
  • Epiphany's main motifs are pulled from two earlier Matt$ songs.[10]
  • Epiphany has the highest number of Markov notes, highest scroll speed, and one of the highest note counts (That being 874); making it objectively the most difficult song in the mod.
    • Epiphany's note count is surpassed by Catfight with 914/915 notes, Home from Doki Doki Takeover/Doki Doki Takeover: Bad Ending with 918 notes, Mirror mode Takeover Medley with 930 notes, Mirror mode Epiphany with 983 notes, and Libitina with 1192 notes, the highest in the mod.
  • In Epiphany, Monika will call the player by the username they have set on their computer.
    • This effect is removed if the player has the 'Self-Awareness' setting disabled, Monika opting to use the name 'Player' instead.
    • Since Doki Doki Takeover+, this has been re-updated to instead use the name "User".
  • At the end of Glitcher (Monika Mix), the sound of Ben Tennyson’s prototype Omnitrix timing out can be heard.
  • Crucify and Beathoven have the songs' special characteristics fully removed in this mod, the former having the opponent drain your health, moving and invisible arrows at times, and the health bar becoming invisible at certain points of the song, with the latter originally not having the opponent hold notes. Glitcher (Monika mix) amplifies it greatly, and brings Monika, Boyfriend and Girlfriend back to the Hating Simulator at multiple points in the song.
  • Old Monika's voicebank is different in Hating Simulator and the "real" world because "some of her vocal data was lost in the transfer and was restored once she returned".
  • In Epiphany, there is a 1 in 50 chance to be jumpscared by Monika when dying via a Note Of Markov. The game closes automatically afterwards.
  • The Original Dual Demise upload was called "Monika's True Form."
  • Even though the voices of Poems n' Thorns and Dual Demise were updated (Due to Just Monika's Week rework), there are no official uploads of these new versions on any platform.
  • According SirDusterBuster, a Side Story called "High School Resolve" was planned, being a non-pixel version of the Original High School Conflict, using kekb's instrumental version. However, with the removal of High School Conflict from the mod, it was discarded and the idea evolved into the new High School Conflict (Plus).
  • Doki Doki Takeover+ added a bonus "Lyrical" version of Epiphany unlocked upon completing the song once.
    • This version gives Monika a variant of her Valentines outfit, and replaces the vocals with those seen in Juno Song's "Epiphany WITH LYRICS!" and removes all of the Notes of Markov.

  • If the Player tries to access the debug menu, a screen will show with boyfriend's icon with a red hat, blank eyes and writing that is supposedly a reference back to DDLC.
  • Doki Doki Takeover Debug Menu
    • There are some extra easter eggs for the menu that went unused, being Sayori hugging Bob (with Little Man on her head), Zipper, and Pompom, showed on a livestream of DusterBuster. (Note: The Zipper one is used in the final game.)
      • DusterBuster stated that he created sketches of Sayori hugging other characters, including one of Sayori hugging Soft Boyfriend, but he only made these three.
    • The following have a chance to appear on the main menu:
      • An idle animation of Sayori, referencing her pose on the title screen of DDLC
      • Sayori hugging Zipper
      • An idle animation of Natsuki, referencing her pose on the title screen of DDLC
      • Natsuki singing alongside Sunday
      • An idle animation of Yuri, referencing her pose on the title screen of DDLC
      • Yuri alongside Tabi
      • A non-pixelated idle animation of Monika, referencing her pose on the title screen of DDLC
      • Monika alongside Akiha Tohno
      • Minus Monika
      • Static and Cyrix glitching with an image of Monika's face
      • Senpai wondering where his microphone is
      • MC's idle animation
      • A Cirno Fumo from Touhou
      • Sayori, Natsuki, Yuri and Monika together, reminiscent of their positions on the title screen of DDLC
        • The Plus+ Update adds few more of the following:
          • Nikku with Monika and Yuri from a distance, referencing 'Deep Poems' from Hotline 024.
          • Ken from Shinobi Scramble serving green tea with Yuri.
          • A trio of indie horror icons (being Bendy and William Afton with Monika on the center) with their respective themed-cupcakes infront.
          • Minus Sayori (which was initially planned to be a costume for Sayori, which got scrapped later on).
          • Haachama serving poorly-made cupcakes themed after Aloe and Nene for Natsuki, with the latter feeling shocked and disgusted.
          • Natsuki and Hank swapping costumes.
          • Sayori hugging a gray Crewmate, whose is on tears due to being reminded of their parent.
    • Some of the songs in the mod are remixes from the main game:
      • Rain Clouds is a remix of Ohayou Sayori!.
      • My Confession is a upbeat, sped up remix of a song with the same name from the original DDLC game.
      • Reconciliation is a remix of Candy Hearts from DDLC+.
      • The cutscene music for each of the girl's week is a remix of their version of Okay Everyone!.
    • The dialogue boxes in the mod represent the girls associated with that color; Yuri is purple, Sayori is blue, Monika is green and Natsuki is pink.
      • The reason why Monika is associated with green (such as her icon and dialogue box) once she is in the real world is most likely because her favorite color is canonically emerald green.
        • This information could also describe Monika with the phrase "green with envy."
    • There is a very small chance pausing the game or dying can lead to a special retry screen with two options labeled "Restart" and "Put me back". Restart starts the song from the beginning and Put me back sends the player back to the menu. This also appears when 7 is pressed on the keyboard (attempting to open the debug menu) on any song.
      • This screen is a reference to the infamous corrupted "hxppy thxughts.png" image found in DDLC's game files after Sayori commits suicide, depicting a crude drawing of Sayori with a rope around her neck. The image can also be seen during Act 2 much more clearly, as a possible special poem.
    • Pressing "9" during a song changes BF's icon to that of DusterBuster (the creator of the mod) instead of BF's old icon (as it does in the base game)
    • Some recent developments confirmed that the popular DDLC mod, Doki Doki Blue Skies, will be crossing over this mod as one of the final updates. When the mod detects the former's save file, it will give the characters special outfits for the mod.
    • The voice acting team for this mod released an official video dub of all its cutscenes on December 10th, 2021. At the end, plans for another major content update, including a standalone mod called Doki Doki Takeover: Bad Ending, were revealed.
    • When the player tries to leave the game via an option in the main menu, a prompt would show up, asking them to confirm their decision, and the options Yes or No would appear. Humorously, the functions have been switched.
      • If the option Yes is chosen, the main menu would just reset and refresh.
      • If the option No is chosen, the game would abruptly close.
    • When the player dies during Libitina, a custom death screen will appear, which resembles a blue screen. There is an error code displayed which reads "0E : 3RDI : D12TORSN". This could refer to the lore of Libitina, as it can also be read as "Third Eye Distortion".
