Orange livebox 2 installation help and questions

Hi guys We have just received our new Livebox 2 for tv etc but just have a few questions for the more technical ones of you out there.The phone connection (and pc location) is at the other end of the room to where the tv lives. QUESTION - where is the best place to put the new livebox? Closer to the tv so the HD lead is not too long BUT then the leads to the pc (not wireless) are longer, this would mean getting a longer phone line.OR keeping the new livebox by the phone point and buying a long HD lead for the TV. This then poses the question that if this is the case do I then have to point the remote at the livebox which will effectively be behind us!Or is there another solution that I have missed? Is the NEW livebox a WiFi unit so that it will connect with the older Livebox remotely? That will mean I don't need any other wires.Hope you can understand my questions.cheers

Actually looking at it - it is just the orange TV decoder, as I already have the Livebox. It says I connect an Ethernet cable to the decoder, any other tips? I am also using an external TNT box (ours was a pre-internal tnt plasma). Does the orange box plug straight into the tv or thru my other tnt box? Sorry to be so dim! thanks for the replies so far. |
Simplest solution is a network extender which you can get from Orange. Plug in to a mains socket by the Satellite encoder and the second part by the Livebox. It comes with two ethernet cables. Plug the ethernet cables into each of the extenders; one into Livebox, the other into the encoder and Voilà ! Job done. The internet connection is carried over the house mains so there are no unsightly cables. We have used this arrangement for well over a year now without any glitches. |
Thanks all. Have found problem (at last) to be problem with TV (LG) HDMi port - have no idea why but gets signals from some sources thru HDMi perfectly BUT get nothing thru other sources. Just a big grrrrrr moment for me. |
