New pedestrian and cycling facilities are set to be placed in Leicester as part of the Connecting Leicester programme.
The new cycling and walking connections will be placed during the same time as the £5 million link road which will connect Putney Road West to Aylestone Road and Saffron Lane, to avoid any disruptions in the future.
The connections came into place after the original road scheme was approved and will cost a total of £2.9 million which is fully funded by Government department for transport grants.
The Deputy City Mayor for Environment and Transportation, Cllr Adam Clarke, said: “The opportunity to include in this scheme a range of sustainable transport links makes sense, and carrying out the work at the same time as the main project means we won’t need to cause further disruption by revising It in future.”
The connections came into place after the original link road scheme was approved.
The old abandoned cycling routes will be given to the University of Leicester Freemen’s common campus at Welford Road.
