Walter Reed Middle School Reviews
Rating 3.52 out of 5 21 reviews
The parent involvement was phenomenal when I was going there. The issue is the teachers rarely cared about students and struggles they had, I only remember 2 teachers that I had that really cared but the rest told the lot of us to “figure it out” and did not lead at all really. The students were a problem in it of itself cuz oh my god fights daily and gang activity etc. Wasn’t the best but wasn’t the worse
My second child is graduating from Reed and it has been a good experience, even taking into account one year of online learning and a lot of Covid disruption. We found an excellent academic home, robust support for the arts (excellent choir and music program), and a thoughtful grouping by academy that makes a large school feel more intimate. Three years into the pandemic the staff and teachers are pretty ragged as we are all. Yes, LAUSD is very bureaucratic but the overall the staff is very competent. We moved here from a charter school and it is a much better school. There are lots of good academic options and great clubs.
As an alumni, I don't have many bad things to say. I enjoyed the afterschool programs the school offers because of the variety there is. I danced for 2 years in their afterschool dance program until I decided to try out their volleyball team—many great memories with the friends I created in my academy along with others from different academies. I would like to see more eco-friendly renovations made to the campus, like composite trash cans and refillable water stations.
