Stopped here for a quick bite of lunch. It was a beautiful snowy Saturday. They had a fire going outside which was a nice touch for snowshoers and cross country skiers. We had a cider and partner had soda. Bavarian pretzels, cheese soup n bratwurst...with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes rounded out lunch. All good. Attentive servers and open and light filled room.More

I left a review complaining about the loud music. We went back a couple of weeks later (my wife wanted to take a visiting friend there), and the situation was much improved. The music was much less intrusive. I hope this is a change in...policy and not just happenstance. We had the same dishes as last time, since we liked them so much. I can recommend the chicken schnitzel (with a fried egg) and I got the spätzle as a side dish. the Dunkle beer is very good. The desserts were rather dry and according to our German guest, not authentic; I don't recommend. Service on both occasions was a bit slow, not sure if they have a staffing issue as many restaurants these days. This is not a fancy meal, just simple hearty German fare. I miss the old Tea House, but this will do.More

The food is delicious and the beer is some of the most drinkable in VT. Don't come looking for locals because you won't find them here. But this is a great stop if you're coming to Stowe and want to dine at Trapps. It's also...a necessary stop if it's your first time to Stowe. We live nearby and go a few times a year for the spatzle and the big platter, that easily feeds four for dinner with leftovers the next day.More

My best friend's wife and my wife droped us off at the BierHall while they checked out the area (my wife is big fan of 'The Sound of Music'). They had a great time while we sampled the beer here. The building is big and...has a huge gift shop (and beer for sale to go). Decor is rustic, with taxidermied animals. When we entered and signed in (Covid restrictions in place), we were asked what we planned to do. We said that we just wanted to have a couple of beers while we waited. There was no seating inside (that we were aware of) and we were led to the outside door and told we could sit at the tables to the far right and order beer from the window. The tables to the far right were open picnic tables in the direct sun of an August afternoon. They had a lot of open tables in shade or with umbrellas but we were not allowed to sit at them. I ordered some beers (it was probably a 40' walk to the window from the open tables) and we sampled a few varities. Having lived in Germany for a bit, I was excited to see traditional names like Helles and Dunkel and such. Sadly, none of the beers were very good. They were pretty bland overall. They also were a bit pricey - two beers ran about $16 (plus tip). The bartender at the window tended to be slow to come over when a customer was waiting... he would make eye contact and either continue his conversation or cleaning for a bit before walking over. Overall, the beer quality is not that great and the prices were high, while service was a bit lacking. I also didn't understand why certain people were being seated in the open sun picnic tables while others were in the shade. With all the great breweries in Vermont, I would go to most of the others before coming here. The Sound of Music connection is cool, but the quality and service are lacking. The view, however, is nice.More

We stopped by to have some soft pretzels and beer cheese. The pretzels are very average…. The cost for a glass of wine, two pretzels and beer cheese (which they charge for and is served in a paper cup - about the size of a...large shot glass basically - came to $24…. I think that’s too much. In the end, if the weather is good, you are paying for the view.More

I am giving it 2 stars because the beer hall appeared clean and we never got the chance to dine or partake if any beverages. The rating is based on the attitude and service received when we walked in seeking to eat and drink. Upon...entering the nearly empty beer hall, I said there were six of us. I was quickly told they would not be able to accommodate us as we didn't have a reservation and they would be filling up quickly. I understand reservations, as I have worked in the restaurant business for many years. However, there was plenty of room and we were also never offered the option of sitting outside. In addition, the manner in which it was relayed was rude, as if I should know better then to just walk in. It may sound weird, but the main reason I chose to layover our vacation in Stowe on our way home was for the soul reason of visiting this brewery and beer hall, as I thoroughly enjoy their beer. However, after the curtness and rudeness I received from the host, or whoever it was upon entering, I will enjoy it at home or the local pub.More

We had reservations and ate outside at the picnic tables. All the servers wore face coverings. The meat sampler was enjoyed by 3 adults and plenty to take home for later. 2 of us shared the salmon meal which we enjoyed, also had large warm...pretzels as appetizers and 2 amazing desserts. For the 6 & 10 grandsons there was a small pond to walk around and an extremely well behaved dog which followed the commands of its owner and would jump in to the entertainment of all. The grounds are beautiful and read the back story of why von Trapp family settled here and still run the facilities.More

We visited for a drink and snack on a beautiful day. We ordered a Bavarian pretzel which was completely stale and pretty sure previously frozen, and at $12 with beer cheese was a total ripoff. For an Austrian style brewery I'd expect much better quality...in the pretzel department. We should have complained and sent back but our waitress was also poor so we just wanted to get out of there. I would not recommend this place but if you go, enjoy your beer sans food.More

We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the pretzel & beer cheese. Please do give us another chance in the food department -- our salads, seasonal fritters, and soups are all tasty snack alternatives that pair well with a cold von Trapp Brewing lager!

Being a big fan of "Sound of Music", we had to visit this place. We were not disappointed: the service was excellent, the schnitzel was one of the best we have ever had and the beer was quite good as well. But the strudel with...ice scream was simply devine, something that will definitely cheer you up, no matter if you love the movie or not. Really recommend it.More

This wasn’t my first time at the bierhall, but it was the first time during Covid & experiencing the outdoor eating area. EVERY time I’ve eaten here it has been delicious. The food is fresh & incredibly flavorful. I can’t say enough good things about...it. The bierhall is very well done (& you can tour the brewery), the staff are friendly & helpful. The seating outside is really nice (a mixture of picnic tables, stone walls & chairs on a patio & grass) with a nice view. We had our 2 labs with us (which is really nice to have the option for them to sit with us (it was too warm for them to be in the car)). The beer selection is of course wonderful - we’re fans of the brand. They have a great gift shop. The Covid guidelines are very safe. Everyone in masks, virtual menus, everything spaced out, separators on the bar, etc. Reservations are required and are easily made online. Indoor seating is open with full service. Right now (March) to eat outside you simply order your food to-go. Beers for outside are served in plastic (to avoid broken glass on the patio). Outdoor service will be available once warmer weather sets in. Enjoy!!More

We didn't make reservations, but decided to make a stop. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and asked if we'd just like beer or if we also wanted food. We had just eaten so we opted for just beer. She told us that we...can sit outside anywhere outside of the tent or a little two seater spot inside. If you choose just beer then you go to the window outside to order what you'd like and then bring it back to your table. When finished you take your glasses back to the window. It took a while to place our order due to the line, but it was worth it. We got two flights and loved everything we had. Very traditional beers and very well done. We almost wished we hadn't eaten first because the food smelled so good. Before leaving we purchased two - 12 can beer samplers, a sticker, a magnet, some jelly and maple syrup. Definitely worth checking out! It's a nice cozy place with terrific beer.More

This was out second time at the Von Trapp Bierhall and we enjoyed it! It was nice to be able to make a reservation beforehand, as it was pretty crowded for a Tuesday! There were sox different types of beer, so my husband and I...got flights to try everything. The soft pretzels were fine, nothing to write home about, and the extra $4 for cheese seemed excessive. Overall a nice spot with beautiful views!More

The Bierhall is at the Trapp Family Lodge. Plenty of dining, both indoors and outside under cover. 6-8 homebrewed beers in a variety of styles. Surprised that restaurant does not off beer flights to allow for tastings. Menu includes burgers and other American favorites, but...is most well known for platters of different sausages with Austrian style sides. Food is very good. Servers were very accommodating and guests can play corn hole while waiting for their food. Prices reasonable.More

We will try again sometime, as it felt like the summer personnel shortages negatively affected lots of places: First, the eating area is a lot smaller than expected and the staff was not serving anyone outside the day we were there, as we were advised..."It might rain and I am not going chance my staff getting wet." When we asked about availability we were given a time 6+ hours later with a straight face... We came back days later with reservations, but it still seemed the staff was struggling to keep up. When the food came it was average- frankly, seemed it was ready and waiting for a while before it got to us. Again- Tough year- we will try again! The Beer is Great!More

My husband and I and our four children, ranging in age from 10 to 15, enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night at the Von Trapp Bierhall. We do not leave reviews very often, but we really wanted to leave one this time because some of...the recent reviews have been negative and we simply can't understand why. Yes, the state of Vermont has been very cautious and has slowly been opening its venued, so perhaps it took a little extra time for this establishment, like many, to find its footing, but it absolutely has done so, and if you have any interest in eating here you will thoroughly enjoy it. Olivia was our server and was delightful and attentive in every way. The food was widely varied and pleased a multitude of palates, and we all left feeling quite satisfied after a delicious meal. The ambiance simply can't be beat, with mountains surrounding and the nearby pond creating an even more calm and beautiful scene. In particular, the Kabob entree was absolutely delicious, and all of the desserts were quite enjoyable, as well. We don't find ourselves in this neck of the woods very often, but this meal will stay in our memory for a long time. Positive in every way!More
