Unusual to look at, yet utterly enchanting on the inside, this museum is one of Stockholm’s unmissable gems. Opened recently in 1990, the prime exhibit here is the Vasa, a ship doomed by it’s own weight and height during it’s maiden voyage, that sank less than 1300 metre out into the water. Salvaged in 1961 and put through intensive reconstruction, the Vasa looks as good as new is about 95% authentic to it’s orginal state. Richly decorated with hundreds of sculptures and ornaments, it’s a little sad that visitors are not allowed over the whole ship, but a section of the upper cannon deck. It’s still worth it though.
