Notes

Material recorded during the sessions of Inter-Groupie Psychotherapeutic Elastic Band and Alpha Beta (4) - Astral Abuse at Marquee Studios, London, under the guidance of Giorgio Gomelsky. These session tapes remained unreleased until 1978 when Charly Records started to issue everything they could from the BYG Records archives.

When interviewed Vangelis protested that the album was released without his permission. He also stated that it was not really a Vangelis album.

Irregardless of Vangelis's disdain for these sessions I akin the dynamic pseudo world influenced psychedelic jams to the incredible diversity he "had" in his past music making. Vangelis went thru quite a few stages of experimentation prior hitting his apex with 82's Blade Runner and fans of prog rock should give these two albums a listen. No synths but plenty of organ(which at times sounds ike a synth!) and clav's augmented bu guitars, drums and percussion. I have this on cd and the audio quality is rather decent no pops and very little noise. The packaging with the futuristic artwork is amazing tho it doesnt represent the music one iota this isnt space age electronica in the least!

Ok. Dillemma here. Discogs says this album files under Jazz, But Allmusic says files under Electronic, New Age.

          Opinions anyone?

I rarely, if ever, give a 5/5, but this album is a definitive exception. Over the past near-decade, this album's relevance has not waivered in my humble abode. The jams are LONG, 3 to be exact, but never dull. Listening to "The Dragon", to me, is a similar experience to listening to "Hallogallo" by Neu!. It may seem like a stretch, but both are sickly long jams with minor yet intriguing variations on a continuous them. Don't even get me started on "Stuffed Aubergine"...

This one's good. Sound quality is good too. Again we hear jazz / progressive rock like with Hypothesis but this is much more defined and thought over. It really is an album of proper music. I would recommend getting this to serious fans of Vangelis. However, it's a band record and Vangelis is only the keyboard player. The band has five members on it. It's not really a Vangelis album at all. 3/5

My copy lists Stuffed Aubergine Part 1 on Side A, and Stuffed Aubergine Part 2 on Side B. Does yours? Cool album!
