Ferguson highlighted Ilsa’s growth within the franchise, since her first appearance in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation in 2015 until 2023 with the seventh installment of the story. Likewise, he pointed out how she had gone through an evolution from her role as an assassin to a figure more integrated into the team of Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise’s character.

“Unless you’re going to have a lot of screen time, it’s a lot of time sitting around waiting to shoot a huge movie that could take over a year to shoot,” Ferguson said of the commitment involved in continuing the franchise. Additionally, he articulated a practical view of her career, underscoring her desire to work steadily and not spend idle time on set.
