The University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, founded in 1767, is a public university for artistic and scientific education seated in Hamburg. Round about 850 students are enrolled in the eight-semester Bachelor and four-semester consecutive Master program “Fine Arts“, which prepare them for developing innovative solutions regarding new issues in all artistic disciplines. The Bachelor program has an interdisciplinary approach, combining all of the artistic and scientific subjects offered at the University, namely: Sculpture, Design, Stage Design, Painting/Drawing, Film, Theory and History of Art, Graphic Art/Typography/Photography, and Time-based Media. Students can freely decide whether to combine several of these subjects or to put emphasis on a single subject. The study programs lead to a B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts) and M.F.A. (Master of Fine Arts), respectively. The Fine Arts teaching education program leads to a B.A. and M.Ed., respectively. In addition, the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg offers scientific doctorates as well es doctorates that have a large artistic content. All applicants must undergo a selection procedure.
