I goofed. I meant Oppo player nits setting! Menu or manual for Oppo said to set to what display can do. I think I turned it to 1000 nits? It turned everything near black connected to the Bravia even though the TV was capable of it.

I meant OPPO player nits setting too. Doesn’t do anything except to SDR conversion. Don’t know how much clearer I can make that.

With a decent modern TV (I have a Phillips 48"OLED and a Sony A95K 65" QD-OLED)...'TV-Led' would be the preferred setting over 'Auto'?

Thank you again mate.
Yes, use tv-led.

I finally gave up on the Oppo 203. It helped that I could sell it for silly money.

Lip sync errors, particularly from the analog outputs, and signals from the HDMI input, the HDMI input being too picky and occasionally blanking for no reason. I couldnt make it work.

So Im back to my 103, and a Panasonic 820. The Panasonic isnt without its compromises, but its easier for me to live with.

Since the Oppo Blu-ray players are not getting any more firmware updates, they are now outdated compared to the newer blu-ray players.

Out of interest...

Does anybody know the last time any big brand manufacturer released a new 4K UHD disc spinner/player. And if so what's its model number?

Good question; I'm interested in the answer to that as well.

IMO manufacturers will change models as their availability for existing internal components dry up. i.e. the Sony x700 vs x700m -- a model change without any significant feature differences, maybe the internal wifi changes from Broadcom to Atheros or something. Nothing an average user would notice except that they restart the counter on the obsolescence of their bundled apps.

It's a stagnant market. I'd love for someone to break out a new high-quality player, but I'm not particularly hopeful.

He sold it, won't do any good now. He still has some pretty nice players the Oppo 103 and Panasonic 820.

What is it desired for players to do that the high end ones don't already?

Why, what new firmware have other players got that makes them so special? Apart from Pannysonic fixing their own numerous Dobly Vision playback errors, natch.

Until the AACS keys get revoked or whatever then the OPPO continues to be bulletproof, it plays whatever UHD I require of it.

I do feel like having a sneaky peek at that Tascam player though...

My Oppo 203 has played everything I have thrown at it including recent releases without any issues (knock on wood) And for the record, it was one of the early manufactured units, Nov. 2016.

That's not true. OPPO has said they will provide updates as needed. There's a reason why OPPO players 5 years old and up are selling for 3 times plus the original price.

We'll have to see what happens when/if a widespread compatibility issue occurs. As I said above, brand new titles still play perfickly on firmware that's coming up on four years old...but I do wonder how long that'll last.

I've swerved that Tascam though, picked up a Sony X800Mk2 instead.

I don't see OPPO dropping the ball. Could they? Anything is possible.

Looking forward for your thoughts on the Sony M2

Ive got the 800, its not all that different. I just wanted a backup Dobly deck, although having to forcibly turn it off and on is the single stupidest thing Ive ever encountered on a UHD player. And always be sure to change Video Settings to Direct!

I saw some comments on AVS, apparently it works just like the Sony with Dolby Vision, if you turn it on it just forces it on everything, which is moronic. If I have to have that on a UHD player I'd rather not be paying 600 for it. Bought the 800Mk2 for 215 instead.
