Seen the tour on a recent TV programme so as we were visiting Newcastle decided it was a must do. Easy to book on line. Arrived by taxi to the entrance of the tunnel but needed to walk up the street to the office, crossing a very busy road.
Barry and Pete were fabulous, obviously passionate about the tunnel and seem to enjoy what they do, amazing for volunteers.
We did the 2 hour tour, my mum did struggle with the amount of standing and my partner due to his height!!! Apologies if his swear words offended anyone.
We really enjoyed the history and stories, it was interesting that the tour was split into 2 parts.
Would definitely recommend. The office had 2 toilets after the tour we popped into the hotel which lets you use the facilities and actually stopped for a drink as it was such a nice place.
We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the tunnels.

This was part of my Birthday present and I am also a fan. Firstly the staff were very informative , but not in a stuffy boring way. As others have said there were all kinds of people on the tour from all over the world and only some of them were fans. The lead host ( Carol ) was very engaging and was very tolerant of all the persons on the tour affording extensive insights into history and allowing everyone to have a lot of access.
I would say this was outstanding value for money and I was surprised about how much I learned from the inside and also all the various areas we were allowed to go. All the other patrons on the tour were also very polite and friendly. You also get a discount on Shearers bar which i found also to be high quality.

We went to Newcastle for the weekend on a nothing more than a whim really. We fell in love with the city, thought it was a fantastic place. The Quayside in particular is a great place to spend your time. Any time you're in the shadow of the Tyne Bridge is obviously a good time. It's a stunning piece of architecture that still looks as impressive now as it always has. We spent an hour or two just walking by the river and taking in the atmosphere. Loved it, every minute.

We had a fun family visit with our 5 year old Grandson. We all enjoyed it, great interactive things, although a few of them do require some maintenance, and lots of interesting exhibits, especially the Turbinia!

Didn’t have time today to see everything, but we definitely want to come back.

However we won’t be visiting cafe next time. £2.90 for a mug of tea, and our sandwiches which were £5.50 had very minimal fillings (a small sprinkling of grated cheese and a few wafer thin slices of tomatoes (and the bread was dry)!! 👎

Drove past a couple of times and thought it looked impressive . When we actually made a visit we were blown away, it’s amazing! The scale and structure really does have a majestic presence with the changing sky as a back drop. Really pleased we made the effort to see it up close.

At last after passing the castle on the train several times, I finally managed to visit it. I would have liked to have done a tour but unfortunately none was available while we were there. Having said that, there is information enough to help you get an idea of how the castle functioned through the ages.

Only accessible during low tides, there is an air of mystery around St Mary’s Island.

We got lucky with the weather on our trip so we’re able to spend some time in and around the rock pools. Unfortunately we just missed being able to climb the lighthouse steps, but this was more than made up for by the spotting of a pod of dolphins and the many seals basking in the sunshine 😊

The beach is beautiful and well looked after, such a great spot to explore and well worth the walk across.

I love to bring my children to the theatre. In this last year we have been to see Dirty Dancing, Pinocchio, Peter Pan goes wrong, Edward Scissorhands and yesterday we came to see wizard of oz. We came to see Dirty Dancing our bags were checked and drinks and snacks were removed from us this including two bottles of Coca Cola and a pack of wine gums. When we entered the venue for sale was bottles of Coca Cola and wine gums. So we had to rebuy our two bottle of drink and pack of wine gums for triple the price we had just spent at the nearby Tesco express. Since then we haven’t taken our own drinks and snacks and purchased at the venue however every time since we have seen lots of people going in with a bottles of drinks in their hands or pockets, at the Christmas panto we saw children going in with selection boxes in their hands to snack on the rough the show and wonder why it’s different rules for different people. I’m a little reluctant to bring snacks again just in case we get them confiscated again and have to rebuy when we get in. Snacks and drinks are so very expensive within the theater,
The shows that we have been have been excellent, I always try to book as soon as possible to ensure better seats but sometimes have been unsuccessful. At the panto Pinocchio. There was a lady sat in front of us, she was extremely tall and also had a high bun on top of her head. We couldn’t see a thing. I can’t understand why a person would do that when they are aware people will be sat behind them. There were also children jumping up and down excited constantly and stood up in front of their chairs which was restricting our view to the left and right of the woman with her high bun. I wish people would be a bit more considerate and ask their children to remain seated whilst everyone else is seated. A lady behind us had a child screaming throughout the first half of Pinocchio and I wondered why she didn’t remove the child and calm him before coming back in. I’m unsure why the staff also didn’t suggest this. However on all other productions we haven’t seemed to have this issue. Leg room is slightly restricted but this is normal for theatres especially the really old ones.

I went to see Baxter Dury at The Glasshouse and what a fantastic show he & his band put on but at the interval I thought let’s go for a pint, so I came out of level 1 to go to the level 1 bar which was not open ! Ok let’s go downstairs to the other bar, big queue that’s fine stood for 20mins got to the front asked for my first choice, sold out, second choice, sold out, offered coors, no thanks so walked off, now Baxter wasn’t a sell out (shame) so surely there couldn’t have been that many people ordering pints, maybe open another bar to cut down on the queue and maybe as you’ve probably got events on all the time keep your stock levels right and don’t run out of choices !

I must confess; my interest was mainly in seeing the Roman remains as well as those of ancient Egypt, and I didn't explore the rest of the museum. That said, the Roman exhibits are very good indeed, and give a good insight into the lives and times of the Romans who lived on and around Hadrian's wall.
