"Will it be the last? I don't know, but we shall see," Ludacris says of the next 'Fast & Furious' movie

Ludacris is sharing his take on the future of the Fast & Furious movie franchise.

While speaking with PEOPLE recently about his upcoming 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards hosting gig, Ludacris, 46, noted that fans tend to mention "whatever is the latest thing that I've done" when he is approached in public.

"The Super Bowl has a little bit of a lasting effect, for sure. They'll be like, 'Oh, I just saw that movie you did. What's up, Luda? Oh, I just heard that song, that feature. You killed that. Oh, I just saw you on Super Bowl,' " the rapper and actor who performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in February with with Usher and Lil Jon, says. "Whatever the latest thing is I've done, that's how people address me. It is a beautiful thing."

Ludacris — whose real name is Christopher Bridges — then shared that "hopefully another Fast & Furious" film is in his future. He has been playing the character Tej Parker in Vin Diesel's immensely popular action movie franchise since 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious and most recently reprised the role in last year's Fast X.

"The last one was open-ended, so to speak. It kind of left people hanging," he tells PEOPLE of the most recent movie. "I feel like we are definitely going to come back at some point very soon to surprise everyone. Will it be the last? I don't know, but we shall see."

Fast X made $704.8 million at the worldwide box office upon its release in May 2023. The series remains particularly popular internationally and made 79.3% of that box office gross overseas, per Box Office Mojo.

"A lot of other franchises, they may end, but they don't really end," Ludacris tells PEOPLE. "It's almost like the beginning of something new, so I don't feel like it'll ever truly end either, but you never know."

Though Diesel, 56, speculated at the premiere of Fast X last year that the franchise could end with a trilogy of movies, the actor/producer appeared to confirm that the next entry in the series will be its last on Instagram in February.

"This grand finale is not just an ending; it’s a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together," Diesel wrote in a caption, after thanking fans for their continued support of the Fast & Furious movies and writing that "to say the excitement for our finale was incredibly powerful is an understatement" at a recent meeting.

"Hope to make you proud!" Diesel finished in his caption.

….The next Fast & Furious movie does not yet have a release date.

As much as I love the franchise, its shift from a street racing movie to over-the-top heist movie is almost laughable at this point. The movies are basically live action cartoons now.

It's time for it to end... wrap up the storyline, give us a happy ending, and let Dom and the crew walk off into the sunset.

And maybe somebody can reboot it in 20 years or and keep it more grounded in street racing and realism.

He is really hit.
Are these 50 year old rappers growing their hair out all late, having a midlife crisis?

Every sequel is a surprise. I enjoy it despite how over the top ridiculous it is now. Jumping the shark is tame in comparison to what they do.

I love the ridiculousness of it atp

I say all the time John Cena showing up as Vin Diesel long lost estranged evil brother is the funniest sh!t to happen ever

my brother who passed away when fast five came out would love this foolery :sob: I always think when I watch the new ones how much nonsense he's missed in this series cause we really thought they couldn't top the 5th lmaoo
