It was slow and I kept drifting off to sleep. Didn't know if I was just too tired to start a movie or if it was that slow. Either way, I finished the second half the next day and I'm glad I did. It really was different and I like that. I thought what kind of polygamy plot is this? Is it a cult? The ending made you think once the movie was over and that's a good sign. I'm glad the blonde killed the two goofs because they were not responsible enough for this magic. I felt she would carry it on until she found someone to share it with. I loved that Ella decided to be with Adam and end it the same way the people did before them. It was a nice change of pace. Give it a shot if you're not sleepy.

This hidden gem turned out to be quite a tale

8/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
When this film began there was something about it that gave me the feeling that it just might be worth the watch. Maybe it was the beautiful natural aperture shots of lydia Wilson at the beginning in the forest or how psychotic Mark Blood storms onto screen. But "Still" which also features Madeline Brewer is a great tale that develops beautifully catching you off guard with multiple plot twists the minute you think you have it all figured out. The story is about a married couple who lives in a rustic cabin off the beaten path. When visitors who are lost show up the wife is more than happy to show warm hospitality, As for the husband not so much fearing the secret they possess will be uncovered by the new arrivals. The acting and cinematography is superb the pace of the film runs smoothly revealing different aspects of the characters at the right time with backstories that compliment the mystery. The storyline is very believable even though it's a fictional tale. Although other films have been created that involve this subject matter "Still" does it in a unique way so it feels fresh not stale. A very heartwarming message at the end you definitely come away understanding why earlier events took place. All in all definitely worth a watch the 5.6 rating does not do this film justice I give it an 8 you'll enjoy this movie if you check it out trust me.
Just average, even below average.

Well I guess I will be the first reviewer that wasn't that impressed by this movie. The beginning had me wondering what was going on, so at that point it had my full attention, but in the end it just didn't make much sense and so I had troubles to stay concentrated for the entire movie. It's kinda slow and that combined with the story is just not a good thing. The acting was okay though so nothing bad to write about them. To me the story had potential but they missed an opportunity to make it a much better movie. Tomorrow I will have forgotten everything about this movie that's how captivating it was to me.
Beautifully shot, deep story

Much better than expected. It has a calm feel to it but manages to keep you hooked to the end with suspense. Not one word is said to much, bit of a thinker in the end because of it. I just loved how the story unravels. As I'm typing this review I can't help to think about the dept of the story and how it lets the viewer guess about the motives of the main characters. For example: do they take a liking in the blond girl at random or do they want to heal her...? Great camerawork has to be said. It's one of those movies you just wish would get more attention. Magic Moonshine!
Good movie that keeps you thinking

It's rare to find a good story without the gore and heavy duty sex scenes, oh sure, there's some killing and even some implied sex. But that's not what makes this movie good, it keeps you thinking and that's satisfying and made even more enjoyable thanks to good acting and good direction.
Haunting

This is one of those movies that you watch that starts out slow, but you find out later, it is intended to do this to pull you in. Once in you can't stop wondering what is coming next. In a methodical way it pulls you in.
The end is mind blowing and beautiful all rolled up into a feeling you can not shake for days.
A beautifully written movie that deserves an encore for a first time film maker.

Just Ok For Me

This film is about a girl who stumbles across a couple living deep in the Appalachian Mountains and even deeper in their secrets.
This film isn't awful. The story is interesting, it is filmed well, acted well but it is lacking a little something. I just never felt captivated or very invested in what was taking place. There's nothing impressive to it but I'm glad I watched it.

2 people find the fountain of youth, literally, in the 1800s, and kill everyone who comes close to know the secret. They live until present day, keeping themselves in their 20s, never aging a day, but they have to keep drinking otherwise they age almost instantly until they die. At the end they decide they have lived long enough and that what they were doing wasn't natural, so they pass on to the secret to a girl who has cancer and so on.
Intriguing But Too Muddled

The good news is that this fantasy tale has originality, decent acting, and some intrigue. The bad news, as I see it, is that it just leaves way too much unexplained for the viewer as it jumps from one plot element to another. It's only at the very end that we get some kind of a grasp on what the heck has been going on. Feature debut for writer and director Takashi Doscher
Another "ambitious" film a newcomer director
cinemagick12 February 2022
It's a pretty depressing thing that the best part of this movie is the scenery. Had potential but squandered it on bad writing, plotting and direction. Stinks of something inauthentic. My guess is that the director has little life experience to draw from. He has overstretched his reach. The material/subject is too esoteric for his superficial approach. Maybe a bit hubris. Overall an annoying, uninspired film. 2/10.
Well...ok...

Good plot...rushed delivery...If this movie had of taken more time to express what it was trying to achieve it would have been great...I'm saying a 6 because it was never boring...but it didn't explore things to it's full or even half way capacity...
Clever and satisfying

It pains me reading so many reviews (good and bad) that completely missed what this movie was referencing. It's a clever twist on the story of Adam, Eve and Lilith in the Garden of Eden. Adam is, well, Adam, Ella is Eve, and Lily is Lilith (those names alone I feel were a dead giveaway for the context of this film). The cave water is equivalent to the tree of life/knowledge and drinking from it brings consequences just as eating the fruit did in Genesis. The twist in this case is that it's reversed. In the bible, eating the fruit meant gaining the knowledge of the world and being banished from the garden whereas in Still the only way to stay in their metaphorical garden is to continue drinking the water, thus maintaining their longevity and the "ignorance" of living away from the rest of the world. Abstaining meant leaving the garden and dying in pain. They even throw in a nod to Cain and Abel with the 2 boys from the bar near the end, fighting each other after breaking the still and leaving us to assume one will kill the other. The twist there comes when Lily takes the shotgun and kills them both instead. I'm not familiar enough with the stories of Lilith to comment much on how she fits in completely, but I believe she came before Eve and left/was banished from the garden for questioning God (or something to that effect). They just flip flopped it here and had Ella (Eve) come first and want for Lily (Lilith) to replace her as Adam's wife. Overall I thought it was brilliant and a refreshing take on the fountain of youth/tree of life story. My only complaint is that I'd hoped to know more about the couple that owned the cabin and drank from the cave before Adam and Ella, but even without their backstory, it was a satisfying watch.
Not bad, just poorly executed
Howling_at_the_Moon_Reviews14 December 2021
The movie had a good and interesting premise, it just wasn't super well executed. It felt very rushed, especially at the beginning and while there were some good moments for each of the three leads, I feel like their finesse or lack there of did the movie some detrimental disservice's at times. Over all I honestly didn't hate it and there were aspects I enjoyed. It was shot beautifully. I feel like this had some real potential but there was just something off about it. Probably wouldn't recommend, but maybe haha.

None of it makes any sense. What happens inside the tree? Is moonshine the elixir of life? Do they time travel? All questions with no answers. Plain and simple, don't watch this movie. There, I just saved you ninety minutes of your life. You're welcome.

This will go down in history as one of the great fantasy films of the modern generation. Although the film seems simple there is magic in every scene. Very few actors can have scenes where they say nothing at all yet its the loudest moments. These 3 found a way to make magic in every sense of the word.
Still is inventive and uniquely works

Warning: Spoilers
For an indie film, Still (2018) reveals a unique twist on the fountain of youth, and exploration of the Appalachian trail with hilly billy moonshiners involved in a menage a trois, unrequited love affair and steamy romance hits it out of the park with great gusto. The story is told in the present and past interweaving a subplot both concerning a mysterious healing water from a magical well deep in the forest in a hidden cave. Doscher's direction deals with the supernatural in a realistic way; using magical realism. The acting is flawless and the soundtrack matches the passion of the players with synchronicity. Great direction by Takashi Doscher.
Lost meets Deliverance!

Great movie! It's not Marvel but it does make you think. People who don't like to read and play video games all the time won't like this. This movie is made about a different era and should have been made 30 years or so earlier.
Worth watching once
