What's the process like to register overnight guests at trinity hall? Is it always granted or only in special cases? Also, is it possible to sneak a friend in without registering? If so, how difficult?
Overnight guests - trinity hall
You go down to reception, say you have to sign someone in and they give you a notebook and you write their name in. But you have to do it before a certain time, I think it's 11? Then you're free to come and go as you please.
If it's for more than a night or two, you may need special permission. I'm not actually sure because I never ran into this problem, but you could also get someone to sign them in for you.
I've had friends try to sneak people in and it ended very badly for all of them. You've to pay a fine and it gets worse with more infractions, 20 euro is the minimum. I've always wondered if there was a way to jump the wall down the side of Halls with the bus or something.
Regardless, just sign your friend in before you leave for the night. Much simpler.
I think there's also an online form, but I didn't know about it until after covid came along and they banned all guests. I was in Cunningham and people brought in unregistered overnight guests all the time and never had any trouble (they didn't go out late so that may be part of it).
They do give out large fines for having prinks/ parties if they're too loud or if you have them during exam weeks and the like. One of my flatmates almost got hit with a €400 fine for having a party, but she got the warden to reduce it to something under €200
There is! I forgot about the online form, you've to do it a day in advance.
I imagine that the guests rule is largely in place so residents don't bring in people they meet randomly on a night out, so they're not very strict besides when it's quite late.
And wow. That's a large fine. I knew a few people who got fined for parties but forgot how much they had to pay, damn.
I think the warden might have increased the fine since it was during exam week, but the partiers were literally screaming before everything got shut down so that didn’t help
Thanks a lot for the info! Appreciate it.
No worries man, if you have any more questions feel free to ask!
