Tuesday was a special day at WGN. Not only is it Tom Skilling’s birthday, it’s officially ‘Tom Skilling Day!’

And not only did we celebrate his birthday, but it’s also part of our month-long celebration as Tom nears retirement.

At the end of February, Tom Skilling will wrap up his legendary career. He is set to retire on Feb. 28 after 45 years of incredible work at WGN News.

As part of Tuesday’s celebration, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Illinois State Senator Will Preston, and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson presented Tom with a proclamation declaring Tuesday, February 20, “Tom Skilling Day!”

“As the longtime chief meteorologist for WGN-TV, Tom Skilling has been one of the most trusted figures on television screens throughout the Chicago area for decades expertly and calmly explaining the region’s often unpredictable weather situations for generations of viewers,” a portion of the state proclamation read.
