The southern tip of Greenland and very scenic if weather cooperates.

We were lucky and were able to view landscapes as well as glaciers and some small icebergs.

If you are in this town, this is probably a place you want to visit. Its open to all and very quaint.

We were lucky as the choir was performing when we visited.

One of the few locations with public toilet access.

Well maintained and worth a short stop.

In August and September 2022, I spent about 10 days backpacking through South Greenland.

I normally do trips like this solo, but given some of the logistical challenges of Greenland (no roads, hiking on trailless tundra, limited online information), and the small chance of coming across a polar bear, I decided to work with a guide service, and was lucky enough to find Tasermiut Camp.

The trip was everything I'd hoped for and more. My guide, Erneeraq, led me through some of the most unspoiled and beautiful land I've ever seen. The hiking and photography opportunities were some of the best I've ever experienced on a backpacking trip, the local food was amazing, I met some wonderful people, and I got to experience the beauty of Greenlandic culture.

I flew into Narsarsuaq, then took a helicopter to Qaqortoq, and then a boat to Nanortalik. From Nanortalik, Erneeraq and I would take a Zodiac raft into a fjord, backpack through one of the valleys, go back to the raft, and then repeat. We spent most of our time in Tasermiut, Torsukattak, and Kangikitsoq fjords.

Erneeraq and Salik (one of the owners of Tasermiut Camp, who helped plan my itinerary) have extensive knowledge of the area, which is important both for safety and simply to ensure that we hiked as efficiently as possible. For example, they knew where to hike through the trailless tundra to minimize bushwacking, the best places to ford the many rivers we crossed, etc. They're also just all-around great guys. Before the trip, I spoke with both of them on the phone a couple of times to get to know each other and firm up details. We built flexibility into our schedule since the weather in Greenland is unpredictable. And on the hikes, Erneeraq was great at gauging my energy levels and comfort with the terrain.

I'm really grateful for Salik and Erneeraq's experience and expertise, and for helping me take this trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend Tasermiut Camp for anyone considering a trip to South Greenland.

Flexible. The captain and guide were great. The boat was closed and comfortable. Not for free, but the price was fair.

The tourism center is located on the main street of town. We booked a small group boat tour of the glaciers and really enjoyed it. Unlike other boats in town, ours was enclosed. Very good news on a cold and rainy day. Staff were friendly and offered other, non-boat options as well as tips for visiting this quaint village.
