      Miniseries – The Young Pope

      2016 Drama List
80% 89 Reviews Tomatometer 87% 500+ Ratings Audience Score Young and charming, newly elected Pius XIII, aka Lenny Belardo, is the first American Pope in history. His ascension appears to be the result of a simple, effective media strategy implemented by the College of Cardinals. In the Vatican, however, the prevailing wisdom is the church's leaders have chosen a mysterious figure as their guiding force. And Pius XIII proves to be the most mysterious and contradictory of them all. As Belardo begins his reign, he is stubbornly resistant to the Vatican stewards, instead relying on Sister Mary to serve as his chief adviser. While she urges him to focus on leading his billion followers, the young pope shows little interest in making himself known, either to the College of Cardinals or to the masses. The 10-episode drama series stars Jude Law in the title role and Diane Keaton as Sister Mary, a nun from the U.S. now living in Vatican City. The Young Pope's original premise and stylish blend of over-the-top melodrama with profane comedy helps overcome an occasionally muddled plot.

Lin S I have read rewiews of which some say it is horrible and others who say it is excellent. It appears that those who think it is horrible are those who have not looked in the mirror and those who do like it are those who have already looked in the mirror. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Anil A One of the best shows i have ever seen and a very much memorable one. Why its production did not continue, and with high ratings ,i do not understad . Jude law was wonderful in his performance, And if nothing else, this show is good for faith, though at first it might not seem so, it is such a waste, not to be continued. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Philip R What a joy to watch. "Tolerance doesn't live here anymore", says the American young pope. With that one line, the show is clear as to what it thinks in regards to American's veering into Christian Nationalism. "I want fanatics!" Beautifully shot, fantastic music along with a stellar performance from Jude Law make this a most enjoyable show. It is easy to see why critics and the audience have scored this so highly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review David W Featuring abundant talent, lovely cinematography, and praiseworthy soundtracks and scores, it's hard not to like The Young Pope. I also enjoyed seeing the Catholic Church portrayed in a modern, politically intriguing way. My one complaint is that I wish the series had delved a little deeper into the main characters, given the fascinating and well-done nature of the characterization that was done. I would definitely watch this series again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Victoria F Just getting around to this after initially dismissing it thinking it was one more take on historical papacy. This is fresh and excellently written and executed by actors. Great story line, great cinematography and creative use of soundtracks. Regardless of what your personal beliefs or thoughts about religion or Catholicism in particular, the characters easily convey the evil and complexity inherent in humans. Can't wait for the sequel, The New Pope with John Malkovitz, hope it's as good as this one. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review Jan C My Catholic traditionalist friends were enamoured with this show, but I find it absolutely demonic.
