This is the true and real story of what happened when Grandpa came to live
with us and took my room and how I went to war with him and him with me
and what happened after that.
I am typing it out on paper without lines on my dad's typewriter because
Mrs. Klein, she's my 5th grade English teacher, said that we should write
a story about something important that happened to us and to tell it "true
and real" and put in words that peoples said if we can remember and to put
quote marks around them and everything....
My little sister, Jennifer, just came in and asked me what I'm doing and
I told her....
"I think you should begin with me," Jenny said, "because I found out Grandpa
was coming to live here before you even knew about it."
"Good idea," I said.
"And put in the story that I am very beautiful with long blond hair and
lovely blue eyes."
"I just did."
"Now you'll have a good story," she said.

This is a classic story, published in 1984, and it is still as funny today as it was way back when.
Peter, while delighted initially, upon hearing the news that his Grandpa is coming to live with his family soon finds himself in quite a pickle; because Peter’s parent’s end up giving Peter’s bedroom to his Grandpa.
Poor Peter is forced to move upstairs into the attic (which is big / old and a wee bit scary). Peter really loves his Grandpa, but he also desperately wants his old bedroom back.
So, Peter decided to declare war on his Grandpa, with the help of some friends, thus creating a major prank war between grandson & grandfather.
However, Grandpa is tougher than he looks & manages to come up with a good number of pranks himself; because rather than give in Grandpa decides to fight back.
The reader will be eager to see who comes up with what prank next – each prank becoming slightly funnier than the last prank pulled.
Peter used to be great pals with his Grandpa, but now wonders how far the prank war will go on?
This classic story has a terrific ending and is now a major motion picture. So, if you want to find out how the War with Grandpa was settled run out & grab a copy of this book right away.
In my opinion, I would advise reading this classic book before seeing the new (updated) movie – because the new movie varies differently than the book.
I bought this book to read to my 11 year old son over his summer break.
Peter and his war with grandpa over getting his room back was the cuties story I have read in a very long time. Robert Kimmel Smith does a wonderful job of weaving this tale from beginning to end with such hilarity. My son and I both loved this book immensely. I would recommend this book to anyone child or adult who wants a good laugh. This book is full of them.
Along with the hilarity, Smith does an excellent job of intermixing three lessons every child can benefit from learning and every adult could us as a reminder.
1. Don’t let others influence how you handle problems in your life and/or with your family. They aren’t living your life.
2. War has a way of spiraling out of control. Before you know it everyone is hurt and no one can remember how it started.
3. Communication is the key to peace.
This was a joy to read with my son and I recommend this quick read for you and your child as well.
