A friend said we shouldn't leave Skaneateles without the fish sandwich here...? I was marginally interested at first, but, made a point to hit Doug's on the way out of town. OMG. The fish portion is twice the size of the bun. By the way,...the sandwich is fish and bun. No frills. (I loaded on the tartar sauce.) Absolutely scrumptious. They were cooking apple fritters as I watched my sandwich being cooked, so I got 2. PHENOMENAL fritters. Lastly, I wish I had ordered the onion rings given that they dump about 3 lbs. of onions on your plate for an order and I'm an OR junkie. I'll be back Doug!More

My wife and I go to Doug's Fish Fry, if not weekly, we go multiple times per month. We go to have a great meal at a very reasonable price. The fry cook knows the best ingredients to coat the seafood and onion rings with...and the correct amount of time to fry the food. The food arrives on your plate for the best meal experience in Upstate NY. You will approve of every meal. Doug's is at 8 Jordan Street. It's easy to find in downtown Skaneateles. See you there!More

We got takeout and overall enjoyed everything we brought home. The fish chowder is jam packed with all types of fish, but is a very thin broth. The taste was good but if looking for a thick chowder probably not for you. The Haddock had...a very thin crust and was a very large portion if order fish only you do get a bun with it). The fried shrimp were cooked perfectly and dinner came w/slaw and fries. Tuesday is fried clam day and grilled salmon, both were very good. The clams were very big and crispy we regretted not getting more of them. Only thing which didn't travel well was fries which were on soggy side. I love fried seafood and this was good.More

We got take out around 430pm today 5/29/2020 from the location in Skaneateles. Last time I was there was about 8-9 yrs ago. Clearly the management and/or ingredients have changed and in a BUG WAY! Let’s start with the fish. Clearly it was previously frozen,...the breading was horrible and not crispy at all. The fries had no salt on them and according to their huge signs all the sauces and condiments were included ...we didn’t get any salt or ketchup. I also ordered a cup of lobster bisque. I don’t think they know what a bisque is. It was more like a semi clear soup with spices. I only saw a few minute and I mean minute pieces of lobster. The taste was awful. We also got an order of onion rings. Onion rings are supposed to be crispy and crunchy not wet and soggy and batter not cooked. The taste was just ok. Dougs—- you guys need to get back to basics, fresh fish with tasty and crunchy batter, flavorful salted fries and a lobster bisque is CREAMY! I know this group of 5 won’t be back unless you get back to the way your food was 8-9 yrs ago. Yuck!More

Recently my wife and I were in Skaneateles, NY, and on the advise of a local, we had dinner at Doug's Fish Fry. The restaurant is on a side street in this cute Finger Lakes town. Inside, the menu is pretty large, the decor is...casual, where you order at the counter and they call you when your meal is ready. We each ordered a lobster roll at $22 each. Bad mistake! Along with 2 small sodas and tax, the bill was just over $50. The lobster was finely diced and over cooked on the grill. It was so finely diced, with no real "chunks" of lobster, that I couldn't tell if it was Maine lobster or from elsewhere. The lobster was served in a garlic butter sauce that totally over powered the meat, and the roll was a large deli/hoagie roll, instead of a traditional lobster roll bun. Overall....Terrible! Ironically, I read almost the same review as I was typing this from another patron. If you are a lobster roll aficionado, you'll be terribly disappointed in this over-priced, over cooked selection!More

We had recently read Doug’s Fish Fry was rated in the top eight fish fries in NY State so we knew on our next trip to Skaneateles we’d need to try it and we were glad we did. Flaky, fresh and lightly fried with a...crispy yet not heavy crust it was delicious. And huge too, the fish was no match for the bun. Make sure to get plastic utensils, you’ll need them! We ordered it with French Fries and they were unfortunately a little soft, but still the meal was very enjoyed. We are in Skaneateles a few times a year for shopping and treats so we know we’ll be back again and when we are we’ll request they leave the French Fries in the fryer a little bit longer.More

We ducked into Doug’s for lunch - what a find! The fried scrod, scallops, shrimp and onion rings were great - and the cole slaw and tartar sauce were first-rate. We’re from Milwaukee, where every restaurant and tavern serve fish fry on Friday night. Doug’s...was among the best we’ve ever eaten. The restaurant is very popular, so you may have to wait a few minutes before being seated. But it’s definitely worth the wait!More

In for lunch 2 days before the New York Coronavirus restaurant shutdown, you could all ready see the effect on Doug,s, only being about 1/4 full on a Sunday lunchtime. As usual the fish portions were enough for 2 sandwiches , which we love, but...the whole dining atmosphere seemed eerily strange . The slaw and mac and cheese were decent and the teas fine, but we look forward to coming back under different circumstances.More

We ordered two lobster rolls ($22 each), and had they not been so pricey, we would have thrown them out. The rolls were soggy with butter and overloaded with garlic. The lobster meat with finely chopped REALLY SPARCE. The bun looked way to big for...the minimal amount of lobster meat they included. And, to top it off, the lobster was overcooked and dry with basically nothing added. The sides were all extra $ as the lobster roll comes with nothing. Sides were below average - slaw and onion rings (pretty greasy). We do not recommend this food.More

An order at the counter and take to your table place. Very warm and friendly greeting by all staff. All menu options were easy to understand. After ordering we admired the mural on the wall harkening the town’s lore. Sat at a clean sunlit table...in a spacious room. The fish sandwich was excellent- flavorful not oily- ate every crumb; you can’t go wrong with their specialty. The lobster on the lobster roll was fresh and light. This is the place for an excellent reasonably priced lunch. If you don’t want to eat in, get takeout and head to a picnic table on the lake (a 3 minute walk).More

No-nonsense, food to order, delicious. You enter in one door and order and pay, then pick up your food once your name is called. Go to a counter for sauces and then you can sit in bare bones tables or take-out. The fish sandwich! Oh!...Perfectly cooked and just $7.50. Amazing. Loved it. (My name is Doug so they loved me when I ordered!)More

This is your typical, local eatery and it was fantastic. You stand in line, order your food at the counter, and when food is ready they call your name. Nice indoor seating or outdoor seating, weather permitting. We had the fish sandwich that was delicious....We also had the shrimp dinner which was very good. It’s a friendly, fun, family oriented, great place to eat. And the prices are so reasonable.More

My wife and I went here for lunch. We were very disappointed with the greasy, overcooked seafood and slimy cold fries. We ending up spending about $38 for lunch and when we went to get a soda refill, we were told "We don't give soda...refills". What kind of cheap place is this? The food is expensive and really taste like crap. They can't even give you a free 20 cents worth of soda refill for spending this much money on their food. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy to eat at. I guess the owner is so dam greedy that a refill is out of the question. Karma will take care of this owner in his future. You have to treat people nicely and don't take advantage of them and their hard earned money. So, next time you decide to go to Doug's Fish Fry to eat, think twice before doing so. There are so many other nicer places in the Auburn area to eat at. I rate Doug's Fish Fry at a 1 out of a possible 10. The only reason I gave them a 1 was that the bread on the roll taste o.k. If I had to describe Doug's Fish Fry in one word, it would be "YUK!".More

Well, this used to be a good place but we had an awful lunch. Both fish orders were overcooked to the point where the fish fell apart like powder. Fries were home made but cold. Maybe it was just a bad day but this was...not a good meal.More

We grabbed fish sandwiches and coleslaw the first night in town and were both disappointed that it was not as good as it used to be. After scraping the fish off the small hamburger type roll, we dug in. I couldn't finish any of it....Nothing bothers my husband, but it made me sick. The coleslaw doesn't taste the same either. I ended up nauseous for a couple of days afterwards. Then whenever we parked or walked anywhere near it, the smell got to me. I know this place changed ha ds some years ago, it has more dine in area, bit it was better whem it was a hole in the wall place.More
