Rebound: The Odyssey of Michael Jordan

I am the biggest Jordan fan so this may be a little biased :) This book shows us a lot of the personal side of Michael Jordan. His thoughts, feelings, and frustrations. This book goes throught his baseball career and his return to basketball. It is funny, sad, and serious. I highly recommend it to any Jordan fan and to anyone else that wants to hear a facinating life story.

I am the biggest Michael Jordan fan in the world and I thoughtthat the book is great. Bob Greene is a great author, and I love theway he made this book. He wrote a little over half of the book talkingabout him playing baseball, and then the other half of the book when he returned to basketball. He gives you a lot of facts about him playing baseball, some that I didn't even know! Great book, I suggest you read it.

This book answers the question that millions of people were thinking when Jordan quit basketball: What was HE thinking! With everything from his first retirement and death of his father to his attempt at baseball and return to the NBA, Greene's book lets you know exactly what Jordan was thinking during this period of time and his reasoning behind everything. A good book!

I'm not quite done reading this, but really an interesting read and an insight to a humble man who acknowledges that his talent took hard work but the divine being gave him the rest..: )

I love this book, It made me think about ball and hard it is to get where Jordan is now. And then all of a sudden to give it up, and go to through the worst thing of all that was when his father died. Then suddenly returning to the NBA, where he kicked.... As conclusion, all I have to say is Jordan rules. ROCK ON MAN Flipmode

Rebound By Bob Greene, started off very facinating, to learn what Michael goes through everyday, and all of the issues that came up in his life, but after a while, it got boring, because I already have a decent knowledge of the superstar. If you want an interesting biography, this book is for you!

don't get me wrong...it's a good one. boby greene really writes well.... but it's just not the magic of "hang time"

Any book or anything with Michael Jordan is great because he is the best of ALL time!And all his books like Rebound are great books to read.And they have great pictures.

It explored some issues, like is Jordan a ballhog, but not in depth. It is average quality. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't disparage it either.

This book mainly talks about Jordan's father. Sure he was a main part of his life and all, but... come on. I was looking for a biography, tell more about his life. How did he get to the Bulls? Where's the rest of his family through this book? The author mainly talks about conversations with Jordan...Which i found quite boring. Its just my opinion, maybe someone else shares it too...

More than anything else, a writer wrestles with how to take something as complex as reality and reduce it into little, black, written letters printed on paper. The writer wants to do this in such a way that the reader, when it is taken in, will use mental powers of the imagination, filter it, and then represent it within so that the original reality comes back alive. In this book, Bob Greene has done just that. The thing that makes Greene's book most interesting, is that he met Jordan due to circumstances that were not really related to basketball. He himself is not particularly a sports fan. But, what I will put forth is that Bob Greene is an artist, who upon, getting to know Michael Jordan, saw the beautiful artistry within his work. Bob Greene intuited that he was in the midst of something that happens perhaps once every century or so. He wanted to drink in that experience. He says as much in his comparisons of Jordan to Babe Ruth. This is the second that Greene has undertaken with Jordan, the first being “Hang Time.” This book picks up with Jordan considering coming back to basketball after his initial retirement. Jordan was playing baseball, but it looked like there might be a players' strike, and Jordan didn't want to get caught up in a position where he might have been seen as being against the players. There is a scene of Jordan playing basketball against B.J. Armstrong in a business suit, “just trying to see if he still had it.” There were fans along the way in his drive in Chicago, who would see him and encourage him to come back. Like the first book, Greene says that he is much more fascinated with the Jordan behind a closed door, talking about Life, than he is with the basketball player. The personal friendship between the two men is what gives this book its charm and appeal. Greene is a sensitive writer and details this story excellently. There is another book, by another writer, that complements the two by Bob Greene. In Thomas D. Rush's “Reality's Pen: Reflections On Family, History & Culture,” you will find an enticing view of Michael Jordan on page 230 in a piece called “Showing His Ass.” It's a rich story of what Jordan means. The account is special, in part, because Rush shares three common attributes with Jordan, 1) They both are products of North Carolina African-American parents of the same generation, 2) They both grow up in the same generation 3) They both live in Chicago at the time of the story. Rush's book can be found right here on Amazon. The Jordan story is just one of the many rich stories within the book, combining with Bob Greene's work to give a very special vision of an extraordinary athlete.

Rebound is a much more than a sports book. Thus is a story that leads you on a path with one of the greatest sports icons that while grieving the loss of his father tries to fill that void by fulfilling a childhood dream. While he almost does it and falls short many times, he also never gives up and ultimately finds his way back to where he wants to be. Michael Jordan is portrayed as the example of how not to ever give up, and to always move forward. Bob Greene has constructed a book that lets you see and feel everything that is going on in the life of Michael during his short life a baseball player with crystal clarity. Highly recommended.

I have mixed feelings about Michael Jordan. On the one hand, he is a great athlete. I respect his work ethic. He has turned in a number of great performances and is no doubt one of the greatest to have ever played the game of basketball. There is a flipside. Michael Jordan got all kinds of special treatment while he was in the NBA. He was the first player I noticed who was granted all kinds of trips to the charity stripe because of unbelievably, ticky tack calls. He scored at least ten points a game at the free throw line from bogus calls. It was great when there was a picture session for 'greats of the game' with Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. Magic told Larry not to stand too close to Michael or they might call a foul. In front of reporters and television viewers, that was a classic comment by Magic. I believe Mike got 99% of all calls in his favor because he was such a cash cow for the NBA. Dominique Wilkins was robbed of a slam dunk championship when Mike scored a perfect 50 doing the same dunk Dr. J did years before. I doubt Dr. J ever received a perfect 50 for it. Dominique's dunk was much more impressive, and he received a 49.5. Please. Mike got in a fight with Reggie Miller, and only Miller got suspended at first. Only after there was an outcry did Mike get suspended. How are Mike's punches different? Mike elbowed Kevin Johnson to the ground for all to see, and Kevin was called for blocking! I am not too impressed that the bulls beat the lakers in the NBA finals. Magic was double teamed every game every minute he was in. On top of that, James Worthy and Byron Scott were injured. Magic and Larry never won three championships in a row because the competition, teams, and players in the 80s were much better than the nineties. Luc Longley, Will Perdue, Bill Cartwright, or Bill Wennington stopping Kareem? Ha! Sport Magazine recently had a piece on the ten greatest moments and ten greatest players ever in the NBA. Mike was ranked number one all time player. Kudos to Mike for mentioning in 'For the love of the game' that to pick a "greatest ever" is impossible because of all the different eras and evolutions of basketball. The nineties bulls were given three of the ten greatest moments in NBA history. This is just more Mike bias. Give me a break. There are hundreds of classic and amazing moments in NBA history. One of the moments picked was Mike beating the Jazz in the final minutes of his last game. He put his hand on Bryon Russel's backside and shoved him out of the way. Then Mike made the game winnig shot. All eyes were on Mike, but the ref did not make the obvious call. There is also Mike's arrogance. According to him, Wilt Chamberlain was a fluke eventhough Wilt was a great all around player. He made a comment about Magic and Larry reaching a 'certain level of greatness' and that the two were not good on defense. What? Are we talking about the same Larry Bird? Shaquille Oneal is also much better and much improved than Mike gives him credit for. Shaq has turned into a solid defender, passer, and he works hard at both ends of the floor. Mike's corporate poster boy behavior is laughable. He did ads for AT&T and then MCI. The Wayans family is also split between the two companies. Mike talked about the enviroment in Rayovac ads and then pitches hot dogs? Mike is not the only athlete who will pitch anything and everything to make millions. I wonder if Mike has checked into Nike's labor practices. Players like Mike and Charles Barkley soured me on the NBA. Charles played like a thug and got away with it because he was a star. Plus, Charles insisted on wearing number 34 at Philadelphia eventhough it was retired for NBA great Billy Cunningham. The star treatment and inflated egos has grown old, and that has turned a lot of people off to sports. I miss the Lakers and Celtics match ups of the 1980s.

This was bought to do a book report on for my son and was the most boring book either of us have ever read. Boring zzzz
