      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Old Man is just as intrepid and spiky -- and derivative -- as younger action heroes, with Jeff Bridges lending invaluable gravitas to this bone-crunching thriller.

Marianna K I agree with other reviews - it starts off brilliantly, but gets bogged down in endless inspirational speeches, no-one talks like that. It's a worn out trope to give the 'foreign' female characters some kind of mystical wisdom that only they can see. It's reductive and tired. Despite that, it's very enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Erica N We didn't really finished it...the first episodes were good, then it became boring. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Aaron B It starts off so strong... everything is mysterious, lots of action... and then... DIALOGUE... SO MUCH DIALOGUE... ugh. Stop explaining everything with endless conversation and flashbacks and go back to the action! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review Fuq U Excellent cast. the 1st 2.5 episodes are great too. Hopeful even. But then moments of "out of character" pops in follow by the slow flood of melodrama. By the time you get to episode 6 your wading in it, wishing you owned a canoe while you look for an exit strategy. What a waste of great actors. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Sps D Even though its tempo seems slow and it is based on dialogues, it is a pretty good series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Caren S Surprising and honest suspense Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Dan Einav Financial Times The Old Man may at times be too slow to be truly gripping, but Bridges in particular keeps us transfixed. Rated: 4/5 Oct 3, 2022 Full Review James Jackson Times (UK) A curious series, apparently wanting to have its old cake and chew on it slowly: half the time it’s a downbeat portrait of encroaching senescence — of regret and depression — the rest of the time it’s a rallying cry not to underestimate the old guy. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2022 Full Review Amanda Whiting Independent (UK) Ultimately, the particulars don’t matter as much as the personalities involved. The Old Man is a show about how far these men will go -- even near the end of their lives -- to save themselves. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2022 Full Review Martin Carr Yahoo! Movies Not only does The Old Man possess two formidable performances in Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow, but it also delivers a Disney+ drama packed with genuine pathos. May 20, 2023 Full Review Jeff Simon Buffalo News Bridges, and quite possibly Bridges alone, will keep me going to the end weeks from now. Jan 23, 2023 Full Review Marcelo Stiletano La Nación (Argentina) The interplay of scarring ambition, greed, need, debt, and pain may not be original, but in The Old Man, this game acquires an unusual and unique resonance.
