martin y I watched 2 episodes but can't take any more. At times the plot is totally implausible and shallow; and the script is dull and lacks depth. Characters are not developed and fail to evoke any feelings in the viewer, beyond a yawn. It is hard to care about any of them. The actors look like they are just going through the motions, having a hard time taking any of it seriously and speaking their lines as if reading them off a sheet of paper. Direction fails to build suspense and at times is just laugh out loud silly. Endless flashbacks to the same events become irritating. It is almost as if the director thinks viewers are too stupid to remember the events unless they are re-shown over and over again. The MI-5/Spooks series was vastly superior in every respect. And there is no comparison to Le Carre or the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy productions. Alec Guinness would not have accepted a role in this very lightweight effort. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review martijn t loved it. Sort of the mini-series version of the movie Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy – same period, same atmosphere, same kind of game, same production design, even the score seems the same. But The Game certainly has its own merits in the form of a solid story and terrific acting. Why not more than just one season, I'll never know. I love this genre and the writing drips in espionage as if it was from the pen of John le Carré’s monozygotic identical twin. It has a certified fresh rating of 95% for a reason. I suggest you watch it in closed captions with your DVD so you can understand it a little better (if American) and so you can rewind parts that might confuse you too much. It is a first rate production of the Cold War terror that we all feared at times growing up in the 60's and 70's. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Rachel Cooke New Statesman The threat from Russia will seem overdone to some, but I remember that icy fear of cold war all too well, and entirely buy it in this instance. May 14, 2015 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian Suddenly the whole thing starts to thicken with intrigue and deepen into a compelling story that convinces on its own terms, even if in real life you aren't sure whether the KGB were real or just something Ian Fleming had to invent. May 1, 2015 Full Review Terry Ramsey Daily Telegraph (UK) We are, of course, deep in le Carr country here, and the production already has something of the look and feel of the classic 1973-set Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. There is little higher praise. Rated: 4/5 Apr 30, 2015 Full Review Merrill Barr Forbes There are things to love about The Game, there are things to shrug at about The Game, but at the very least, there's nothing to truly hate about The Game. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Roger Catlin rogercatlin.com Like an earlier BBC America series this year, Intruders, it's a little dense and hard to follow. Everybody seems to be calling everybody else a traitor. Nov 6, 2014 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media The pacing is quick, the motives murky, the characterizations deft.
