Featured artists for May at Arcata Artisans Gallery are Anna Oneglia and Amy Ellis Taylor. All are welcome to come meet the artists and view their recent creations during Arts Arcata! Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Oneglia is showing oil paintings from a quiet winter and spring spent at home in the studio. She has been working from both what is around her in Arcata (flowers and handmade bowls) and also from her sketchbooks, including swimmer drawings made during a house sit visit to Hawaii last year.

Oneglia is preparing to make a return trip to Japan in the fall to study more about the Japanese style of woodcut making called Mokuhanga. Some woodcut prints made in this style are also included in this exhibit with her paintings.

In this series, Taylor explores sunlight in the context of her surroundings on the North Coast. Over years spent growing up on the North Coast, Taylor has learned to appreciate the thought-provoking moments provided by the forest groves and beaches. As a stained glass artist, Taylor is always looking to find a subject that can be best expressed through her medium.

Arcata Artisans is an artist-owned cooperative gallery. On display all year are works by its 22 members in a wide range of media including ceramics, woodworking, photography, fiber arts, painting, jewelry, printmaking, metalwork, stained glass, fused glass and hot cast glass. The gallery, at 883 H St., is open every day. For more information, go to www.arcataartisans.com.
