Product Description

KAVIK THE WOLF DOG A magnificent Alaskan dog who leads his team to victory in the National Open Sled Dog Race, Kavik is bought by wealthy, unscrupulous businessman George Hunter, but his plane crashes en route to Seattle. Twelve-year-old Andy finds the badly wounded Kavik in the woods, nurses him back to health when no one believes he will survive, and loves the once proud dog, who is left fearful and cowardly by the accident. Hearing of Kavik’s amazing recovery, Hunter takes the dog back to Seattle to show him off, but when Kavik becomes frightened at Hunter’s annual Sportsman’s Dinner, he leaps through a glass window to freedom. Lost and alone, he must regain his courage, battling man and the elements on his 2,000-mile trek to find the boy he loves in this adaptation of the beloved children’s book, with spectacular Alaskan wilderness footage. Approximately 98 minutes/COLOR NIGHT OF THE WOLF In the wilds of the contemporary frontier,a mother and son confront their greatest fears when faced with a challenge that will change their lives. Claire McNichol (Oscar® nominee Anne Archer, Fatal Attraction, Jake's Women) is a widowed rancher raising her headstrong son Jesse (Zach Bostrom, Dinosaur). What separates themis Jesse’s desire to be a ranger like his father was, as well as his appreciationfor the wild and his love for the wolves that roam it. When a riding accident leaves Claire stranded, unable to walk, and trapped in remote mountains she finds herself in the company of a ferocious wolf. As Claire’s chances of survival diminish with each passing moment, Jesse has to grow up fast to find his mother and rescue her. But when the boy stumbles upon a dead body, he must outrun the two poachers responsible who are tracking his every move. As Claire develops an unlikely bond with the wolf, she has no idea that the dangers are just beginning. Approximately 89 minutes/COLOR

We read this book in my 6th grade lit class. Even though it is an older movie, my students still enjoyed watching it. Not spot on with the book, but it provides an opportunity for students to do a book vs movie comparison.
