a goofy hybrid of twilight zone/ lord of the rings/ gremlins, and all sorts of other films with exotic magic lamps/ rings/ or any other objects. but this one comes with a good deal of humor: people hurting themselves for cash. also includes two gangsta orthodox jews who seem intent on . . . well, not quite sure. and the mandatory wise and inscrutable, timeless oriental (the oriental version of the magic negro) i'm sure they had fun writing the script and it shows. the two leads were surprisingly good in their roles: likable, comical, even in bizarre circumstances. nothing heavy here, but lots of good fun.

Pretty good flick. Those were some really gangsta Hassidim , I must say. It was a clever, somewhat humorous break in stereotype until they started shooting people, that was a bit much. It was murky as to why they changed from just wanting the money, to wanting the teapot itself at the end. And how would a Jewish woman get the teapot away from Hitler, unless she was Hedy Lamarr (who purportedly claimed she was given as a gift to Hitler by her industrialist Austrian husband to sleep with, and she received Hitler's gold engraved lighter as a memento from Hitler. So, why not a teapot, too?)

What a wonderful dive into the heart and nature of humanity, with relatable characters and a solid story line. Once upon a time ago Hollywood made movies like this but seldom ever do they now. It is a great movie because it is free of "The message" and because of its great writing, casting, acting, directing and the hard stare into what it really means, and not what we are told it means to be "Great" and successful. I LOVED it and i mean that truly, sincerely. WARNING This is not a kid friendly movie, there is implied sex, graphic violence and adult themes.

care some soilers:
These two steal this from a shop...and find that when they hurt themselves, it pays out money.
That's nice? Only it's a bit of a trap...It lulls the owner into living beyond their means and starts to pay out less and less.
To get more money again, they have to be more and more brutal.
It also pays out if they hurt others too...and so the trap is complete.
Okay, the acting isn't brilliant and the plot is simple.
But it's good fun and worth a few quid.

The brass teapot is sort of an Aladdin's lamp that grants wishes and changes the people who own it. The pot has been stolen by the wife, Juno Temple. It has some amusing moments as the couple use it to satisfy their wishes. There are a couple of absurd Hasidic Jews who appear trying to retrieve it. Actress Juno Temple is compelling at times. I didn't expect this much from her. The couple have to get rid of the teapot to regain happiness, which they finally do.
