Must-Do's in Minneapolis in 2 days?
Hey guys! I will be visiting from Texas for a short 2 day trip this week for an interview. I will be staying through airbnb in the Dinkytown neighborhood and don't plan on having a car. I would greatly appreciate any recs you have for places to check out (food, cafés, parks, etc) in this short time. Thank you!!
See a show at first ave, perhaps a show at one of the old theaters downtown. Everyone goes to the Mall of America (tourist trap). But I'd say check out some awesome restaurants and grab some local beer.
Any particular restaurants you'd recommend?
Bar La Grassa if you are able to get a reservation on shorter notice (possible during the week). Food is out of this world and reasonably priced. This is a "must-do" restaurant in Mpls, no exaggeration.
EDIT: If you're dining solo, you may not need a reservation. I think they have open-kitchen seating that accommodates walk-ins too.
Last time I ate at BLG the mussels I ordered were spoiled. I know the difference between ocean fresh (sweet), a little old (maybe a little fishy and not as much flavor) well these were the "I'm going to kill you" off smelling variety. I didn't make a scene but I won't be returning.
Hola Arepa World Street Kitchen Victors The Butcher and the Boar Zen Box in the Skyway - get the #1 Gyoza, my favorite meal. They're only open from 11-230pm weekdays.
Let me know if you need any other ideas!
You could take the #2 bus to MIA http://new.artsmia.org/visit/
P.S. when you get in you can take the blue line from the airport to downtown, transfer to the green line and take that to dinkytown.
Plenty of good suggestions in this article
Thanks, you guys! These are all very helpful. Looking forward to exploring Minneapolis!!
Many great suggestions from The Heavy Table out of towners guide
What are your main interests and hobbies? What kind of food, music, nightlife and art do you enjoy? Specifically when are you coming? The first thing any traveler should do is pick up a copy of the City Pages or visit the website (http://http://www.citypages.com/). Here's my top ten list:
Walker arts center followed by cocktails, snack or dinner at Le Belle Vie. (http://www.labellevie.us/)
Visit Midwest Mountaineering and Thrifty Outfitters - rated one of the best outdoor stores in the country (http://www.midwestmtn.com/)
Rent a fat bike and take a ride down the trail next to the Mississippi river. http://freewheelbike.com/about/bike-rentals-pg647.htm
Do a tour of the Northeast breweries: Dangerous Man, 612Brew, Fair State, Indeed, Bauhaus, North Gate and Sociable Cider. Closer to where you are staying: Town Hall and Day block are both worth visiting as well. (http://mnbeer.com/)
Head out to Robbinsdale for dinner at Travail. Take Car2Go, Uber or Lyft. The food and experience will completely blow your mind. (https://www.facebook.com/Travailkitchen?sk=wall)
Go shopping at the Mall of America. You'll probably hate it but atleast you can cross it off your bucket list. (http://www.mallofamerica.com/)
Staying in Dinkytown you'll want to check out Al's for breakfast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al%27s_Breakfast
Visit Nye's Polonaise before they close: http://www.nyespolonaise.com/
Catch a show at First Avenue: http://first-avenue.com/
Cocktails at Varsity theater or Loring Pasta bar. http://loringpastabar.com/ Burrito loco if you're looking for late night snack: http://www.burrito-loco.com/

Wow that was way more extensive than I expected! I actually arrived today and will be staying through Wednesday evening. I am definitely planning a trip to Al's before I leave! Regarding interests, I am into outdoor running, so I am excited to check out the beautiful running areas nearby, especially along the water.
A lot of people enjoy running across the stone arch bridge (an attraction others have mentioned). See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Arch_Bridge_%28Minneapolis%29

The holiday village is here on Nicollet ave downtown. You can get there by train, or bus. It's the first year so I'm not quiet sure what it'll have but it's open day and night. Check it out.
It's lame. Do not go.
If you want to eat in Dinkytown, Al's Breakfast is great for breakfast and easily one of the most unique restaurants you'll ever go to in your life. Annie's Parlour is great for a burger and a malt. If you like Chinese food, Shuang Cheng in Dinkytown or Hong Kong Noodle (a short walk away) in Stadium Village are both good options. Overall, downtown food is overrated. These are good food options since you won't have a car.
The best view of downtown is the Stone Arch bridge. You ought to be able to take any bus that goes from campus to downtown and walk to the bridge.
