As quickly as it started, October 2021 has already come to an end, closing out this year's Halloween season along with it. And while November looms on the horizon, there are still plenty of tricks and treats to be had! The Marvel Cinematic Universe returns to both the big and small screen next month, a whole wave of new anime premieres unfolds throughout the rest of the year, and a fresh set of video games launches before the holiday season begins in earnest.
Here are all the biggest and best trailers, teasers and promos from the last week of October 2021, including sneak peeks at original programming coming to Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix in the weeks and months to come.
Clerk
One of the most fan-friendly filmmakers in the game who helped usher geek culture into the mainstream is Kevin Smith, who kicked off his prolific career with 1994's hit indie film Clerks. Smith's life and career stand as the subject of the new documentary film Clerk, featuring interviews from those who know the filmmaker best as Smith reclaims his own personal drive and motivations to craft the kind of movies that he wants to make.
Directed by Malcolm Ingram, Clerk premieres Nov. 23 on digital HD.
Cowboy Bebop
One of the biggest, most stylish premieres coming to Netflix this November is the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, with John Cho starring as the slick bounty hunter Spike Spiegel as he and his friend Jet Black cruise the cosmos getting into trouble. The latest trailer for the upcoming television series showcases the tense, trigger-happy dynamic between Spike and his new partner, Faye Valentine, while teasing some epic action set pieces.
Developed for television by Andre Nemec, Cowboy Bebop premieres Nov. 19 on Netflix.
Eternals
As Marvel Studios prepares for its sweeping return to the big screen with Eternals, the latest promo for the film makes it explicitly clear that the movie is set firmly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Eternal Kingo dismisses Thor and Spider-Man to be considered among Earth's Mightiest Heroes as the group prepares for a renewed showdown against the Deviants.
Directed and co-written by Chloe Zhao, Eternals opens in theaters Nov. 5.
Extra-Terrestrial Boys & Girls
Acclaimed anime filmmaker Mitsuo Iso is back with his first original anime project in 14 years with Extra-Terrestrial Boys & Girls, set for a simultaneous theatrical and home video release in two parts next year. The two-part film follows a young girl named Yasako in a near-future story that has her investigate strange disturbances that blur the line between the real-world and augmented reality.
Written and directed by Mitsuo Iso, Extra-Terrestrial Boys & Girls premieres Jan. 28 in Japan, with the second part slated to premiere Feb. 11.
Girls' Frontline
A new anime adaptation for the popular mobile game franchise Girls' Frontline is coming this January, with a new trailer showcasing a world where lifelike combat robots, dubbed T-Dolls, carry out dangerous missions across a war-torn landscape. However, the T-Dolls quickly go from saving human lives to becoming the possible source of total annihilation when a malevolent artificial intelligence takes over, pitting the T-Dolls against humanity for an epic conflict.
Directed by Shigeru Ueda, Girls' Frontline premieres in January 2022.
Hawkeye
Christmas is coming early for the MCU, with Hawkeye bringing two avenging archers together to ring in the yuletide holiday. The latest promo for the Disney+ series has Clint Barton team up with aspiring superhero Kate Bishop to take on the lowlife Tracksuit Dracula gang, as the two heroes face the mobsters with everything from trick arrows to Molotov cocktails to make sure they live long enough to see the new year.
Developed for television by Jonathan Igla, Hawkeye premieres Nov. 24 on Disney+.
Lightyear
While Buzz Lightyear might be a living action figure in the main Toy Story series, the latest Pixar Animation film Lightyear explores the man behind the legend. The animated film's first teaser trailer reveals the intrepid Space Ranger blasting off through space while teasing extraterrestrial encounters before Lightyear is introduced to his iconic uniform, ready to go to infinity and beyond.
Directed by Angus MacLane, Lightyear opens in theaters June 17.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation
While the first part of Masters of the Universe: Revelation had ended on a grim cliffhanger, with Prince Adam stabbed and Skeletor claiming the Sword of Power, hope is reborn in the first trailer for next month's Part 2. Revealing he has survived, Adam shocks Skeletor by tapping into the Power of Grayskull without his signature sword, transforming into Savage He-Man and turning the tables on the evil warlord for an epic rematch.
Created by Kevin Smith, Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 2 premieres Nov. 23 on Netflix.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The classic 2006 Pokémon games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are getting an enhanced remake next month for the Nintendo Switch with the aptly titled Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as Nintendo's bestselling franchise continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The latest trailer for the remake features the introduction of Team Galactic, poised to menace the Pokémon Trainer protagonist as they explore the Sinnoh region.
Developed by ICLA and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be released Nov. 19 for the Nintendo Switch.
The Quintessential Quintuplets
Following the successful first two seasons of the romantic comedy anime series The Quintessential Quintuplets, the story continues in an anime film slated to premiere next year, with a teaser trailer revealing the eponymous quintet having fun at a waterpark. Based on the manga series by Negi Haruba, the series follows a young tutor named Futaro Uesugi who is destined to marry one of the quintuplets from the wealthy Nakano family he is hired to help with their studies.
The Quintessential Quintuplets anime film is slated to premiere in Summer 2022. The first two seasons of the anime series are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
Shaman King
After premiering this past August, the Shaman King anime series reboot is prepared to launch its next story arc in Japan. The latest trailer for the anime, based on the manga series of the same name by Hiroyuki Takei, has Leaf and Anna meet with Matamune, the spirit of a beloved house cat named Hao Asakura who has since wandered the world for centuries, getting into all sorts of magical mischief.
Directed by Joji Furuta, the first 13 episodes of the Shaman King rebooted anime series are now available to stream on Netflix.
Star Ocean: The Divine Force
The popular RPG franchise Star Ocean is returning to modern consoles next year with the new game Star Ocean: The Divine Force. In contrast to previous installments of the series, The Divine Force will allow players to more freely explore the game's environments, with movement appearing similar to the Monster Hunter franchise, as they traverse new worlds as part of an epic adventure.
Developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix, Star Ocean: The Divine Force will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC in 2022.
Tiger King 2
One of 2020's biggest surprise television hits was the Netflix original documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, exploring the ridiculously true story of rivalry and excess among private zookeepers specializing in big cats. While the documentary ended with real-life figure Joe Exotic behind bars for convicted felony, a trailer for its upcoming sequel hints that only the surface of the story has been told so far, with even more shocking revelations to come.
Directed by Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, Tiger King 2 premieres Nov. 17 on Netflix.
The Wheel of Time
One of Amazon Prime Video's biggest original series premieres of the year is the upcoming fantasy series The Wheel of Time. Adapting the novel series of the same name by Robert Jordan, the series follows the powerful magic-wielder named Moiraine who escorts a group of young people around the world, believing one of them destined to either save the world or destroy it. The latest trailer for the series provides an innovative 360-degree look at the fantasy world to provide an even more immersive experience.
Developed for television by Rafe Judkins, The Wheel of Time premieres Nov. 19 on Amazon Prime Video.
The Witcher
The latest trailer for The Witcher Season 2 doubles down on the monster-hunting premise of the dark fantasy franchise, with Geralt of Rivia preparing to take on the bruxa and a woodland spirit known as the Leshen when the series returns. Believing Yennefer lost, Geralt escorts Princess Ciri to his old childhood home to protect her while Ciri continues to come to terms with her own destructive potential.
