On April 19, thirty fifth-grade students from Goose Creek CISD’s James Bowie Elementary celebrated their graduation from an eight-week Exploration Academy held at Space Center Houston. This unique program, tailored for students with untapped potential, offers hands-on learning experiences that align closely with the district’s curriculum. Rather than traditional classroom settings, students engaged in what could be termed as "Science Class with a Twist" right at the Space Center!

The Exploration Academy curriculum is meticulously designed to integrate current NASA missions and the fifth-grade science Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). This approach not only enriches students' learning but also provides them with authentic experiences that resonate with real-world applications.

During their time at Space Center Houston, students delved into various scientific topics, applying specific TEKS such as: effects of microgravity, ecosystem changes, Newton’s Law of Motion, solar system exploration, and Earth’s landforms.

Additionally, students utilized innovative robotics and technology to tackle real-world problems, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The Exploration Academy at Space Center Houston has not only broadened the horizons of these young learners but has also ignited a passion for science and exploration. Congratulations to the graduates from James Bowie Elementary for their dedication and achievements in this inspiring program!
